Title: Stream capture success stories
Post by: xenome on March 18, 2012, 05:30:56 PM
Hi all,

I'm looking to poll the group on what Linux streaming video software actually works.

I've tried -

mplayer - terrible lag
vlc - terrible lag
ffmpeg - great to file, piped to anything else is lagged
ffplay - runs for a few seconds and then freezes
web browser - pretty decent speed

For me, the best results have been with the browser.  I suppose I should learn how to open a firefox window w/o borders and use that as my player.  I figure all my troubles must be related to libffmpeg as I believe it's the base for all my viewers.

Has anyone used these tools with better success?  I'm using the mjpeg.cgi URL and primarily converting to/viewing in m4v.  If you've had success, I'd love to hear about it, and more specifically the command line options you used.

Thanks,
xen
