DPR-1020 install problem with Win7 PRO 64bit
« on: January 15, 2013, 12:16:32 AM »

Hi All

My DPR-1020 1port usb printer server is on v.1.03 build1 firmware.
I am using d-link ps-link software v.2.31
My windows 7 pro 64bit has all the latest updates on a Dell Vostro 2520.
I have downloaded the latest lexmark x1250 usb printer drivers for windows 7 64bit from Lexmark.

Wireless printing is working perfectly on an XP SP3 laptop to the print server.

The quick install guide instructs me to run the Lexmark setup program until it prompts to connect the usb printer cable. At this point i am supposed to "link" to the printer using the ps-link software. Windows 7 is "supposed" to detect the usb virtual port and the installation should continue, but it doesnt?

I have a gut feeling that I require a firmware update for the DPR-1020 so that windows 7 can detect the virtual usb port??

I have progressed further by installing it as a std tcp/ip port, changed the port from "raw" to "lpd",enabling the print queue and "lpr" byte counting.
The printer job gets sent, but wont progress further as the lexmark app stalls waiting to retrieve ink levels before doing the actual print job. I have tried to disable ink notifications, but no joy. So close yet so far.....

Anybody have a similar experience or a solution?

Much appreciated.

Have you tried to set up the printer directly connected to the Windows 7 PC first?
Ensure you disable ALL 3rd party security programs like Anti-Virus and Firewall temporarily while installing.

This seems like a Windows 7 problem, not a Print Server issue.

You may want to phone contact your local DLink support office and inquire about Windows 7 and the DPR. The dates are well after when Windows 7 was released so I presume the DPR and SW should be fully supporting of Windows 7.

Hi

It works on Windows 7 when directly connected to the laptop usb port, no problems.
Just had a look at a d-link site, supports win7 32bit ONLY, bummer :(

I'll be taking it up with my local D-link supplier as to why they are selling a product in December 2012 with windows 8 being launched, but still not even supporting windows 7 64bit!

Thanks anyway.
