DSL-2750U dropping wireless connection
« on: November 27, 2012, 11:01:50 PM »

Hi There,

Looks like I now have an issue with my D-link Router!

A lot of the time lately (and it's steadily increasing) I can be using Wi-Fi, and then the connection drops. Not the ADSL connection, just wifi.

I've narrowed it down to the router as I've had my cellphone, desktop and laptop on Wireless and all three dropped at the same time.

The only solution seems to either:

- restart the router
- turn wireless off and then back on again

I've tried:

- Updating the Firmware on the router (to this: ftp://ftp.d-link.co.za/D-LinkFTP/pdfs/products/DSL-2750U/Firmware/Gan5.CT02W-B-DL-R4B065-DAF.EN_upgrade which is version 1.65)
- Setting up the wireless connection up again, using the Wizard

The router doesn't seem to be frozen when it happens as I've resorted to using the LAN cable for my desktop.

It is rather frustrating though - I've tried everything I could think of, short of a factory reset (but I don't have much hope in that).

Any suggestions?

Link>Welcome!
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?

Has a Factory Reset been performed?

Link>Wireless Installation Considerations
What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?

Enable WMM Enable if there is this option.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Howzit Furry,

To answer some of your questions:

>> What Hardware version is your router?

H/W T1

>> What region are you located?

South Africa.

>> Has a Factory Reset been performed?

Not yet, but I'll give that a try if you think I should.

>> What wireless modes are you using?

802.11n Auto, so I assume it's a mixture of G and N (as my laptop is G, and my desktop N).

>> Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.

It was set to 40 Mhz in both bands, I changed it to 20Mhz now.

>> Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.

It's using channel 6.

>> What security mode are you using?

WAP-Personal, with TPIK + AES

>> What wireless devices do you have connected?

My desktop (with a D-link DWA-566 adapter - wireless N)
My phone (HTC desire, I think it's wireless G)
My laptop, wireless G

>> Any cordless house phones?

No.

>> Any other WiFi routers in the area?

Doesn't look like it:

>> Enable WMM Enable if there is this option.

Looks like it's enabled by default:

Hopefully all that sheds some light!

Thanks for your response.

I can confirm I am seeing the same issues on my router. The WiFi drops and comes back online after 5-10 minutes.

I have tried what you have mentioned above. Could you confirm if there is a firmware in the works for this device?

The firmware I'm using is the same one I mentioned in my first post.

Firmware is dependant on region. So you can't just go and change it.

Anyway, the only thing's I've done was changing the channel width it to 20Mhz now.

Since then I haven't had any dropping, but I'm monitoring for now.

Sup

Yeah, mine is doing the same thing.

I've got all the same settings and situation actually as the Thread Starter other than the fact that I have a wireless phone as well.

I too have changed my settings to 20MHz band now and will monitor to see what happens.

It is happening on the following devices:

Desktop: Dlink DWA 140 - Wireless N
Notebook: Realtek RTL8191SE - Wireless N
Blackberry 9790 and 9360 - Both Wireless N
Cheap Fongkong Chinese tablet thing - wireless N
Samsung UA40ES6200 Smart TV - Wireless N

All of these disconnect at the same time. I have to reinitiate the connection on the device most of the time but sometimes I have to reboot the router.

I have tried resetting the router to factory settings to no avail.

So yeah...the internet already kinda sucks here in Cape Town so intermittent WiFi is rather annoying...especially when I'm trying to game online and my connection drops rather often.

Also, copying over the wireless between one computer and another is ridiculously slow...about 500KBps. Should be getting around 5-10 MBps conservatively.

I suppose I will see what comes from changing to 20MHz bandwidth...

Yo,

turns out there are later firmware versions on the FTP site. The latest is 1.70:

ftp://ftp.d-link.co.za/dsl2750u%20(Retail)/Firmware/Retail%20Version/Hardware%20Version%20T/T1/DSL-2750U_Firmware_AF_1.70_R01_LATEST/

I just installed that now.

Will see how it goes.

Same problem here. Two month old DSL-2750u. Works fine for a while then the WIFI turns off. Using Wifi analyzer on my android phone I can see the neighbouring wireless networks and then mine just disappears from the screen while the others remain. Will also upgrade the firmware once no one else on the LAN is busy.

I think we are a little off topic. The OP had a problem with devices losing connection, whereas we are having an issue where the Wifi turns itself off completely.
I will repost in a new thread here: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=54653.0
