Title: Motion detection broken on 930L?
Post by: aaplmike on January 27, 2011, 05:08:39 PM
Hey all.

So far I'm really enjoying the versatility of the DCS-930L. However, I'm beginning to wonder if DLink was perhaps a bit *too* eager to add function to such a small device. For example, the motion detection just doesn't work at all on the camera. I'm not sure whether the thing is overloaded with streaming, emailing, FTPing, etc. etc., but no matter how I configure the camera, motion detection just doesn't work right.

I click a zone or two on the Admin page, save the settings, then literally walk around for 5 minutes through the detection field and never get an email. Then, during the day I will get groups of 2 or 3 emails from the camera with nothing caught in the snapshots!

Has anyone else had this issue?

a couple of things to check before i got it working for me.

1. the motion detection grid...make sure you are walking around in the active area.
2. saved your settings. (i made all my changes and didnt save settings. duh).
3. sensitivity, the default was 90 and i got a lot of emails with nothing moving in frame. I set it to 70 and that works for me.
4. Yahoo mail is sooooo slooow. and depending on your network it could be a couple minutes before the email arrives.  I switched it to send to my gmail and get it pretty fast. I dont know if thats a port thing. but i set up my gmail to chime a different notification sound on my droid than my other mail,  so that works out better anyway.

if you still think its broken, exchange it.  so far i think the 930L is a pretty cool product.
good luck.
