DAP-1525 versus DAP-1522 used as a Media Bridge
« on: April 10, 2012, 12:19:35 PM »

I have a couple of DAP-1522 units that I use as bridges.  I just bought and setup a DAP-1525 hoping that its directional antennae and underlying antennae orientation control software would improve the signal quality.  Just the opposite happened - in every case in my house, the DAP-1525 showed poorer signal quality - both at the "media side" and at the "router side".  Both the 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz channels show the same lower quality performance using the DAP-1525.  In addition, the DAP-1525 does not have the QOS settings that the DAP-1522 has.  Go figure!  ::)

BTW: I used a modern D-Link DIR-857 wireless router for this testing.

BTW2: The DAP-1522 do not malfunction with QOS turned on when using the DIR-857 - a nice improvement.

Performance can be impacted by neighboring WiFi and external conditions.

Hi,

I got the same poor signal with the DAP-1525 as described before.

The new DAP-1525 shows a lot way less! signal than the DAP-1522, I was kind of expecting the opposite.

The router I use is the DIR-825 Xtreme N Dual Band Gigabit Router

Hope they can come with a new firmware to solve this I guess!

Cheers

You could try a FW update however I don't see anything regarding functionality for this version:

Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?

Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.

Can impact anything with external interferences. This is a different model that differs from the 1522.

You still have the 1522?

yes I do,

the plan was to replace the DAP-1522 by the new DAP-1525 and use the DAP-1522 as AP.

My solution will have to be the other way around, I will try to place the 1525 as AP an see how it goes

Done!
Setup the DAP-1525 as AP.
Channel 161 with Bandwith 20Mhz
wireless mode n only
and I get 50% in the signal from the 2nd floor which I believe is ok based in the first test! as Bridge where I got only 20%

Again, I hope something can be done with a FW update.

Hope this is helpful for anyone!

cheers!

What kind of signal do you get if you are on the same floor and not the 2nd floor? Thats one thing that can impact signal and placement.

Yes! I know.

Same room direct line, 90%, But then what is the point!, for this I just run a long cable and connect a Switch.

Same Floor different room 40%, same long cable, and disappointment

Different Floor, 50% almost right under the DAP-1522, less cable and at least I am giving some utility to the DAP-1525

Again now I am just using it as AP, for the 5Ghz for TV,Gaming, Pictures, Music and Movies(xbox,ps3,tv,WDlive)

the rest goes into the 2.4Ghz band
