Russian firmware revert problem

Hello,

I have a dir879 and flashed the russian official fw from here: http://ftp.dlink.ru/pub/Router/DIR-879/Firmware/2017.02.01-17.54_DIR_879A1_3.0.1_release.bin
This has more features than the EU official but has some Wifi dropouts.
I cannot revert to stock due to "incorrect firmware file" message in both recovery and web-gui (i tried all the fw available - 1.03, 1.05, 1.07 etc).
Is there any other way to revert to EU stock from this russian firmware?

If this process fails:
Emergency Recovery Mode

Then probably stuck with whats loaded.
