DIR-815 Connects to PC's does not connect to Internet
« on: August 18, 2011, 12:57:33 AM »

Yeah  could use some help with this router.

I'm using an AMBIT cable modem/router with the DIR-815.
The Ambit is in pass through mode.
I have 2 wired machines and 1 wireless laptop.
I can access the router from all the machines...but none of them can access the internet.
Any clue what i am missing?

I was replacing an WRT54G2 which is still working, and allows all the machines internet access just fine.

What HW version is your router?
What FW version is currently loaded?

I presume the WRT worked with the AMBIT Modem/Router before?

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off QoS options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA2. Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area?

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Cat 6 or 5e recommended.

FW is 1.0

Linksys works

Router was set back to Fac default.
Wireless is completely disabled

QOS is off by default
Adv DNS was checked by default
Setup DHCP reserved IP address (does this mean i have to set up the IP address for each machine?
Dont even see and option for auto optain IP address (DHCP is on)
I have to go back and look but i also did not see an option for "endpoint independent" on the firewall settings.

Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router.
Ensure each device you connect to the router is set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.

I'm just chiming in to let you all know that I have this problem too. I had to log into the router to reset the modem to fix it. It happens about once every one or two weeks

What Hardware version is your router?
What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What ISP service do you have? DSL or Cable?
What ISP modem dod you have? Make and model number.

Somethings to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can copy and paste these from under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.

Preferred is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area?
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection under Advanced/Adv. Wireless.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing.

I'm just chiming in to let you all know that I have this problem too. I had to log into the router to reset the modem to fix it. It happens about once every one or two weeks
