Motion detection + looped (overwriting) recording

(1/2) > >>

cptstubing:

Hi,
I am using the web portal to configure my camera.
I noticed that if I record 24/7, the camera can be set to record over the oldest files.  This way it keeps recording non-stop and I don't have to worry about deleting files.

I recently set the camera to record only when the motion detection is triggered.
However, I noticed that there it will eventually fill up the card and not overwrite older files.

Is it possible to use the motion detection recording trigger and also have the camera record over old files?

Thanks,

Gabe

* What Hardware version is your DCS? Look at the sticker behind or under the camera.
* Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DCSs web page under status.
* What region are you located?
What Mfr and model is the main host router?

what happens if you set to record 24/7 instead of my motion detection?

This is also an issue for me.  It seems that the DCS-2530L just stops recording to the SD card when it fills up.  It does not delete the oldest files and continue to record like the DCS_936L or DCS-942L.  Is there an option somewhere which I am not aware of to tell it to continue recording?  This is a major problem. It means that if I don't monitor and clean up the SD card regularly the camera will not have the recorded videos when I need them!

I am using hardware version 1 and firmware 1.03.01, with a Netgear R7000 router, in the NA region.

Thanks,

Mike

If I set the camera to record 24/7, the recordings are automatically deleted to make room for new recordings.
This is not idea, as who wants to sift through dozens of videos looking for the  3 seconds of video you need.
Motion detection is better, but the camera will stop recording when it's full, and that's it.
Too bad there weren't more options for this.

MichaelH1:
I upgraded to firmware 1.05.05 more than a month ago, and the motion detection works significantly better than earlier releases -- much fewer false positives and false negatives.  It is a huge improvement over earlier versions.  But there is still the problem that the camera just stops recording when the SD card is full, so you need to regularly monitor the storage usage and clean it up when getting full.  I wish DLink would add an overwrite option like they have on other models.
