hi,

i have dir855, bought in Italy and replaced 2 times directly from DLINK by RMA procedure.

After firmware update (actually i'm using 1.22NA), the router was stable with wired connection and 2.4Ghz wireless connection.

The problem is the 5Ghz connection; the signal is poor and when, for example, i try to access into my photo folder (resident on my NAS) and i launch the Microsoft Photo viewer, the router automatically restart and i lose the connection.

WHY?

Just use the EU firmware, it is working great (for the A1 and A2 series!). Do not f*** up an EU router with NA firmware. It is not working well.
"Repair" your router with the repair firmware, to downgrade it again. After that, use the newest EU.

If you have a poor 5.2 signal, you probably use the wrong software for your wireless adapter (in the PC or Laptop) or the wrong antenna's inside. Do you have a good 5.2 adapter anyway, like the Intel 5300?

I try to use the EU firmware (last wersion) but my router was restarted continuously  with NA firmware not. My hardware release is A3, but my OLED display show A2  .

I have Intel 5100 adapter in my Notebook is good?. Really i have many errors with 2.4ghz connection, few with 5ghz. The big problem with 5ghz connection isn't the quality of signal but the power. If, for example, i use my notebook near to the router, the speed connection showed is 300mbps and the signal is excellent (100%). If i move the notebook to 5 meters, the signal decreases to 34% (2.4ghz is 90%).

  I saw you have the same display 11a / 11n problem....!

About the stability, when you downgrade the router (with the special repair downgrade software !) and reinstal the 1.21EUb01 software, first reset the router to default factory. Do not check or uncheck anything you don't have to change. Only the things below:
For maximum power, the security to WPA personal (2.4 and 5.2), WPA2 with AES only. The best result on 40 MHz only (if all N adapters can handle it). I use the 2.4 in the 20/40 mix and with the AGN mix for the older adapters (like my printer etc). The 5.2 works only for my laptop.
Basicly all the other changes are not neccesary and stay factory default. Maybe the only thing to add is some MAC address acces for better security, added as an extra to the WPA2. Your choise.

I use the original antenna's. Offcourse the router (also the laptop) has to stand free in a room. No metal parts, electricity or walls in it's range to your adapter.

The Intel 5100 is good, offcourse with the 64 bit Intel 13.1.1.1 drivers (for Win7). Check the inside of your laptop if the antenna connections are still connected as they belong.
Also this adapter must be tuned.
Activate WMM, activate CTS only, wireless mode to 802.11a/b/g (6), activate n-modus, disable "not compatible with 40 MHz", energie to highest (5) and agressivity to normal (3) or less!
