Title: Stops working after a day or two
Post by: kramrengaw on August 04, 2010, 12:29:30 PM
I have my DAP-1360 hardwired to a DIR-655. I am using a static IP address for it and it set to not expire on the DIR-655. I have the static IP set to the opposite range as my dynamic IP devices. It works perfectly for about 2 days or so and then I have to reboot the DAP-1360 then it works perfectly again for another 2 days or so. This is very annoying.

Anybody have any idea what the issue might be?

I have the same setup as you. I found that during setup I had issues with the static IP until I changed the DAP-1360 to use DHCP, and assigned a static IP to it from the router (DIR-655). I also had a period of time where I tried everything to get it to work, only to discover the LAN cable was unplugged (doh!), so I had a whole lot of things going wrong at the same time! So far no stability issues at all.

Other options might be to use the scheduler to turn off the radio once in a while, or use the watchdog feature to reboot the device if it looses communication (sounds like a cool feature that I have not been able to use yet  :( )

Thanks for the reply. I will try changing the DAP-1360 to use DHCP, and assign a static IP to it from  my router and see if that helps. I pretty much have tried everything else.

I'll add one follow-up. Of course as soon as I posted my comments, my DAP-1360 stopped responding (doh!), and had to be rebooted. Since then I have enabled the watchdog feature, and, touch wood, have not had any issues. I am trying to get the watchdog to send me email notifications of restarts, but so far no luck, either as the result of no restarts, or bad mail settings.  I have been checking the log as well, but all I can see there is that it will go from 18 or 20 pages to 3 or 4, which I assume is the result of a restart, but who knows.

I thought your suggestion had fixed my problem but, like you, my DAP-1360 stopped responding and I had to reboot it. This thing just does not appear to be stable. Once you set it up correctly you really should almost never have to reboot it. This is the first time I have ever been really disappointed in a piece of D-Link gear. All he rest of my D-Link gear works pretty much flawlessly.

Come on D-Link, this thing is in desperate need of a firmware refresh!
