Difference Between DWA-182 / DWA-180 / DWA-171
« on: August 04, 2013, 01:41:44 PM »

Just wondering if anyone can point me in right direction or provide a quick reply to determine the difference between these three D-Link products:

DWA-182
DWA-180
DWA-171

I've checked the D-Link web site and it doesn't specify the differences between the three (other than DWA-182 supports AC/N/G/A whereas the DWA-180 / DWA-171 supports AC/N/G).  Just trying to decide which will be most beneficial for my home network devices.

Thanks for the replies  8)

Could someone clarify this for me: is there any way to get 1000 Mb/s speeds on this thing? I have it plugged into a USB 3.0 port but it maxes at that 650 Mb/s however I caught it recently going as high as 740 Mb/s so is there some way to trigger a full 1000 Mb/s data transfer rate or do I need to upgrade my hardware?

The 1000Mb is a combined connection rate with 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz being that the connection rate between the DWA adapter and the main host routers WiFi based on 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz. Up to 300Mbps (2.4GHz) or 650Mbps (5GHz) that the adapter supports if the WiFi routers supports those same connection rates. The connect rates are different from actual data xfer rates which can not be attained. I've seen up to 20Mb on 2.4Ghz and up to 30-40mb on 5Ghz. Wired LAN cable is the fastest and I've seen 80-90Mb on wired Gb Lan connections.

While I accept that, I have seen devices that are able to somehow consolidate both bands and increase their throughput that way (I believe I installed a wireless N card in my mother's computer that was capable of this). Can the D-Link DWA-180 do this or is it not set up like that?

The 180 can only connect to one or the other radio, not both at the same time.
