MAC Addresses of COVR Points

Hi,

I am trying to find the ideal placement for the COVR nodes around the house. For this, I am tracking the BSSID of the Access Point (which seems to be something like the MAC address) to which my client devices around the house are trying to connect. It seems that each COVR node has multiple MAC addresses. I am assuming these MAC addresses correspond to the ETHERNET and WiFi Bands (5Ghz and 2.4Ghz). Now the question is - given the MAC address of the COVR Point which is on the sticker at the back of the node, how do we identify the other MAC addresses that are associated with the same COVR Point. Once I know this, I will get a better picture of the network layout inside my house.

Any clues / ideas?

  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?


What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the A Point and B Point(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between A and B point to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

Best way would be to turn ON B points one at a time. Let it connect and populate in the A Points web page. Edit the B Points tile name to reflect a location for the B point so you can look at the A Points web page to see where the B points are located. I use BM for basement, DR for dining room, etc...

Version: HW A1 FW 1.08
Region: EU/Finland (Sorry, but I was unable to find an EU forum)
Size of house: 1550 sqft.
DIstance between A --> B1: ~20ft (2 dry walls in between)
Distance between A --> B2: ~30ft (1 dry wall in between)

I am able to identify the A/B points, exactly like you suggested. However I am not able to identify which COVR point is acting as an Access Point for a device. For example, I have a laptop in a room that is close to points A and B1. If I look at the BSSID (MAC address) it connects to, I cannot find this MAC address specified anywhere on the COVR points or on the WebUI. It looks like the BSSID MAC is sticker MAC+2 of B1. I am guessing that the sticker MAC refers to the ETHERNET interface and probably sticker MAC+1 is 2.4Ghz interface and stcker MAC+2 is 5Ghz interface, but is there a way to confirm this somehow?

Ya thats one thing that I don't believe COVR supports, viewing of which point devices are connected too. They just show up on the A Points list is all...

hi OP, I have a tip for you

visit https://<ip-address>/version.txt of your COVR node(s) -- it will show you the FULL set of version and HW/MAC information -- extremely helpful for your purposes of tracking the unit's MAC addresses;

Specifically you'll find 4x MACs:
1. WAN
2. LAN
3. 2.4GHz
4. 5.0GHz

btw, this is a gap in functionality -- I agree -- fully the gaps are:
1. unable to see per client which COVR node they are connected to
2. the statistics page on COVRA primary ONLY show activity for devices connected through the primary node ;/ <-- annoying
3. the statistics pages for secondary nodes are dead/empty

a case was submitted: `C6983704` PENDING

You have the 1210 series COVR, I presume there maybe some differences between the 1203 and the 1210 COVR series systems so FW version will differ and maybe different. The 1203 system has FW version v1.08. The 1210 series isn't available to the USA region.

Thanks a lot @fermulator!! This works well!! It is good to login to the router before using the link above, since it re-directed me to manual firmware upgrade first. Once logged in, the link shows all the connection info.
