I'm Only Getting 54MPS From my DIR-615 N Router-Please Read
« on: September 28, 2008, 08:23:52 PM »

Hi

My question is a Tech question

I bought a Dlink WBR-1310 G WIRELESS ROUTER(SPEED WAS 54MPS) ON MY LAP-TOP(2007 MODEL)THE LIMIT I WAS TOLD I COULD GET FROM A G WIRELESS ROUTER FINE.

I BOUGHT A Dlink DIR-615 N AS I WAS TOLD I COULD GET 300 MPS

Well I hooked it up and still only get 54 MPS GOING TO MY LAP-TOP

BUT WHEN MY DLS/BROAD BAND ROUTER IS HOOKED UP (2004 model) SAYS NOW CONNECTED AT 100MPS I KNOW THAT'S STILL NOT FAST FOR MY DESK-TOP BUT IM ALMOST LOSING 50 MPS TO MY LAP-TOP AND IM USING A N WIRELESS ROUTER.(NEW AND GREAT THING THEY SAY)

I was told It's something to do with my Phone lines and that my Broad Band Router is a 2004 Model and is a G Model.

Heres a Speed Test I just Did from my Lap-Top

Please read the forums "sticky" notes; especially this one:

You laptop is probably running an built-in Intel Centrino wireless adapter.  You need to set up the WPA2-AES wireless security protocol and you may get 130 MBps speeds.  The main reason is that the DIR-615 is limited to the 2.4 Ghz frequency radio band which the Intel Centrino wireless adapters appear to not be completely compatible.  You will need a router with 5.0 Ghz radio band.

i have the same problem - sometimes limited to 48, sometimes 54.  I would be happy with 130, as i realize my Centrino cannot achieve 300

hardware B3 Software 2.23.  Tried to download firmware upgrade - it wouldn't install.

what's wrong here?

Hi, on a somewhat similar topic, in the sticky note it makes reference to a D-Link Wireless Utility. What is that utility and is it available for the Mac?

Thanks,
Hayward...

Greetings,

As far as the Dlink wireless Utility goes; it is a software that is issued with certain Dlink wireless adapters. If you were to purchase lets say a DWA 140, you then receive the wireless adapter that is compatible with the 300mbps and it would come with a Utility that is compatible with Mac OSX and greater.

I hope this information helps you, If you are looking for a wireless adapter utility that can support your current wireless adapter simply look up the model number at the web site of the manufacturer.

Hi

I don't think the initial problem in this thread was addressed (i have the same problem).  Correct me if my assumption is wrong, but if you use "N" and AES security and have everything set up correctly, one should have 130Mbps download.  I had this, briefly, for a couple of days and now cannot exceed 54.  I've reviewed the settings and reset the modem and router.  Still 48 -54.

Any thoughts?

A.) Is your wireless adapter built into your laptop?

B.) Is your wireless adapter 'N' capable?

If the answer to 'B' is 'No' , then your wireless connection speed is limited to a max of 54Mbps

The Simplest way to configure your router is to use the Following settings:

Product Page: DIR-615 Hardware Version: A1   Firmware Version: 1.10

Setup

Wireless Settings

Wireless Network Settings :
Enable Wireless :     Enabled
Wireless Network Name :     (Also called the SSID)
Wireless Channel :    11
Enable Auto Channel Scan :  Disabled
802.11 Mode :     802.11 b/g/n mixed
Visibility Status :    Visible  Invisible

if your router has these settings on it, you should be able to connect using an N wireless adapter to the appropriate speed.

I hope this helps.. MasterchiefDutra
