Title: issues after installing dir-857
Post by: Bigredsofa on August 12, 2012, 05:06:42 PM
Hi there,

I have bought a d-link dir-857 routeur 2 days ago to improve my connection signal, it did work well except, from now on, my roomate and me seems to have big trouble loading "Facebook" and "Youtube". Facebook will work but will be very buggy if i type in https:// before but still very unstable. And "Youtube" (the page will load but the videos just won't) and all these issues are only happening on our laptops, BUT everything works just fine when I go to these websites on my Desktop, which is also using the wireless network..

Is there something I can change in my routeur'S settings ? I have set the security to WPA instead of WEP.. I don't know if that can have an impact..

Anyone can help me ? Because they will start to really hate on me if I don't fix this :S

Link>Welcome! (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=41537.0)

What region are you located?
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
Double NAT (http://www.practicallynetworked.com/networking/fixing_double_nat.htm)
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.
If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.

Seems to be an issue with Videotron and the DIR-825 as well:

We don't seem to see this issue here in the U.S.

Any chance you have a different ISP or try a different ISP Modem? This seems to be mostly an issue with either the ISP or ISP Modem. This is a good router for gaming. What I game with. Not sure why others are seeing this on Videotron ISP service.

Have you tried disabling DNS Relay and inputing ISP DNS Primary and 2ndary IP addresses under Setup/Internet/Manual? Not sure if this would help or not. You'll need to reboot the router and PCs afterwards. Let us know.

Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using Link> teamviewer (http://www.teamviewer.com) if your interested. Its safe and secure.

Hmm I don't see any "DNS Relay" thing under that section, I am not really familiar with anything networking, just a casual guy wanting to browse/game in peace.. :S    and there are 2  different adresses written.

1st in Primary DNS Server : 204.194.232.200
2nd in Secondary DNS Server : 204.194.234.200

I don't know if its risky to put those numbers in here but... I'll take the risk :S

DNS numbers are ok to post. We try not to post WAN IP addresses that you get from your ISP.  ;)

Is there DNS Relay under Setup/Networking? I might have got my sections wrong.  ::)

What happens if you input DNS IP addresses into Setup/Internet/Manual, save, reboot later then go back and check DNS Relay. It should not be grayed out here.

Hmm sorry I'm not quite sure I get what you want me to do here, you mean going into Setup/Internet/Manual and type in a random IP address in both Primary DNS Server  and secondary DNS Server ? Because I can't seem to be able to make the DNS relay "tickable//untickable"

Input your ISPs DNS addresses in the DNS Fields under Setup/Internet/Manual. After doing this, Will the DNS Relay option be not grayed out any more?

DO you have Advanced DNS Service anywhere? I don't think you should however might be. Just checking.
