VLAN not isolating traffic
« on: January 21, 2015, 02:14:45 PM »

I created a new VLAN ID =2.
I added some of the ports from VLAN 1 to VLAN 2 as untagged ports.
I just want 2 isolated VLANS.
I expected when I moved the ports out of VLAN 1 to VLAN 2 I would not be able to ping them.
This doesn't seem to be the case.
I'm not sure what I'm missing.

In general I totally agree to what you say. But what if a port configured for VLAN 1 and another port configured for VLAN 2 are connected to each other either directly via a cable or indirectly via a VLAN unaware (uplink) switch or set of switches? In this case both VLANs would be connected and communication were possible as if the two VLANs didn't exist...
