Hello,
I have a DIR-615, hardware version: C1, firmware version 3.12NA and my issue is that it keeps dropping my VPN connection after 12 minutes.  Sometimes it'll go longer than 12 minutes but on average right at 12 minutes of my connection, it drops.  This happens whether I'm using the wireless or hard wired to the router.  As a test, I ran a continuous ping on a computer on my internal network and also to a computer on my corporate network.  When I'm VPN'd in, both pings are successful.  Once the router kills my VPN session, the pings to my internal network are successful.  So the router isn't rebooting or anything like that.  My VPN session will automatically reconnect, but I'm stumped.  Any ideas?

Well, I downgraded to firmware 3.11 and the problem has gone away.  Looks like 3.12NA was the issue.

Same here , can confirm Fware  3.13NA does NOT fix the issue either... is there another workaround besides downgrading the FWare?

Hi friends,

I'm suffering this same issue. The hardware that I have is E3, firmware 5.10.
In my case there isn't a fix time, like as everybody mentioned.
I tried with the previous version, but without success. Any ideas?

Need more info on your VPN's. Also, who is your ISP? What kind of modem. There really is almost no info in those posts except firmware.

In my case, the MODEM is DSL-500B.
I'm not sure if the problem is on ISP, because before to use the DIR-615, I was using another router (other brand) without this issue, I mean, the VPN connection doesn't drop.
Just to add, this issue occurs wired and wireless.
I came back with my old router, and this issue doesn't occur.

Your right, the ISP specifically doesn't matter, but PPPoE vs DHCP does matter. DSL is usually PPPoE

1. Who set up your first router?

2. Are you using PPPoE or PPPTP?

3. What kind of protocol is your VPN using? IPSec?

4. What kind of support do you get from your IT?

5. Is there any hardware involved with the VPN? Settings on your PC? Software installed on your PC?

6. Does your connection work on other computers not using a VPN when it drops on the one using your VPN?

5) No, there isn't any kind of hardware. The software is from JUNIPER
6) Yes, it not using VPN, the intenet is connected all the time

Quite simple....I drop off this router into the garbage!!!
Unfortunately the DLINK support is poor, very poor....
My solution was solved when I bought another router (another brand), that it's working fine, without this issue and many other that I found. I decided to forget this brand, DLINK. I'm concerning my relatives and friends to buy the same router that I did, to not have the headache that I had.

I applaud the initiative of this independent group, but it's incredible that the company, like as DLINK, doesn't do anything to solve the problem that the customers have.
Applying the firmware that exist in this forum, it's clear that DLINK doesn't want to be responsible for this product more. I'm very disapointed with DLINK....

I do understand the frustration you have with this router however sometimes these routers are only doing as they are designed to do. I can't sat for sure however some routers do not have some abilities like other models. This could be a case of maybe this router model just doesn't have the full capabilities to handle VPN stuff like other routers and models. Maybe this router was mainly for just general mom and pop home user networking. I do believe in general that most routers should handle some of not most of todays networking however this just might depend on what the OEMS are developing and what they want to put in to there routers. Dlink has made some great products and as other OEMS as well. Sometimes its the user that needs to understand a bit more about there needs and make more appropriate decision when buying networking equipment as well. Do some research on routers, ask questions, get all the info before going to buy something. I wish you luck with your new router.

Unfortunately, questions like as VPN is not covered in the product data sheet or technical manual, and in the time that I was searching about this router, this point was not covered. Before to acquire this router, I had another old router (another brand), and this old router didn't have any issues regarding on VPN, so I thought the newest products, like as DIR-615, would work like my old router, but with more feature, like as "N" support. Sure, if I found any comment regarding this kind of issue, I never had bought. But unfortunately many issues just appear when somebody try to apply to a specific application. I understood that this kind of products can show issues along the time, but it's important that the manufacturer opens his mind and has for wish to fix it.
I'm understanding the game, I disagree but I respect.
I hope that in the future, DLINK comes to change this way, and assume the responsability to fix issues and not let this responsability to independent group.
