Seeing fluctuating speeds between 107 and 214mps
« on: October 24, 2010, 02:43:21 PM »

I have a dir 655  20/40 mhz mode is on, auto scan chanel is on, my security is set on wpa-2   set on the aes cipher and 802.11G/N mode selected. And i havent seen 300mps yet.  Its connected to a wdtv player with a wusb600n adapter. This is about the only adapter that will work with the wdtv player.  It also has 94% signal strength.  When streaming 1080p movies im worried it will lag. Any ideas to get more speed?

About the best you may get with the adapter you are using.

300 Mbps connection requirements! Please read!

The router and adapter are both D-Link 802.11N products and are using the latest firmeware/drivers.

For goodness sake turn the auto channel scan off.  Choose a nonconflicted channel using InSSider software, the newest version is out.

Set priorities using WISH and QOS.

I have auto channel on and have no problem with 300 Mbps on all my N connected devices including my Plasma TV.

Autoscan is fine for short distance situations as the autoscan reading will be accurate for both the router area and the wireless workstation.  As the distance increases, the router area may be unrestricted but at a remote location, the workstation has a conflicting neighbor.
In my own situation, the router is on one side of my home and my workstations are at the extreme other end where my nextdoor neighbors have their router.  My router does not see the conflict as it is so distant, but my InSSIDer shows my neighbor's router is the most powerful at my remote workstation.  I had to ask him to "fix" his channel because of all the bother.
