1.22N questions and other randomness.
« on: February 23, 2010, 05:25:23 AM »

Hi all, well I was having a major problem with the previous version with the connections being dropped everytime I used Utorrent. After I upgraded to 1.22N the problem seemed to have been solved, for about 4 days. Then its kind of a random drop. I am wondering if anyone else is having similar problems.

My last question is I have a ASUS G71Gx. When I set the router to 5ghz the computer can not pick up the signal however it does pick up the 2.4 ghz signal. I have searched the net and found drivers but none of them work.  I am wondering if I am missing something to be able to use the 5 ghz signal.

Thanks all
Jonathan

You shouldn't be having any random disconnects on v1.22NA. I have been running since it's release and haven't seen any issues on wired or wireless. And I game a lot. Can you detail on what your seeing and how your setup is configured? Wired or wireless? DSL or Cable? Please review the ATT DSL post about DSL issues seen if you have DSL.

As for 5Ghz, I would ensure that ur ASUS device is supportive of 5Ghz and the latest drivers are installed. One thing to mention about 5Ghz, it seems to work well if used as a Line of Sight kind of connection. The higher the frequency, the more susceptible that interference from walls, doors and floors can have an impact while using this freq. Again let us know what your looking to do for wireless. You can review my Gaming and Gamefuel for some additional 2.4Ghz settings that seem to work well for general used or gaming.

Let us know.

I live in a barracks with probably I guess its safe to say 30 other wireless signals bouncing around. Of course, my router only sees like 15 of them due to my location. My sole purpose is for this connection to reach anywhere. Maybe im trying to get too much from my router. With a 2.4 ghz signal I can reach the area I want to with 3 bars. Im hoping that the 5ghz I can get 5 bars. But when I use the 5 ghz signal, my computer wont see the signal no matter if I try to manually connect..everyone else can.

What are your wireless security settings? I get the feeling that D-Link optimized this router for WPA2/AES. It may have an impact on your performance.

My sole purpose is for this connection to reach anywhere. Maybe I'm trying to get too much from my router. With a 2.4 ghz signal I can reach the area I want to with 3 bars. Well, for 5Ghz, it's ideally meant for line of sight use as it's a high band frequency. Any intrusions like walls and doors don't help. And barracks being probably concrete and re-bar running thru it all? Might be better to use 2.4Ghz and try using a single mode like G or N only. Also try manually changing the channels to find optimal signal. With other WiFi in the area, changing channels will be a good thing to keep other signals from colliding. Let us know how it goes.

Well I cant connect to it, or even see it with 5 ghz is active and its 10 feet away and in LOS. I am still getting dropped  like I was before the 1.22N patch. I did however set my router to N only connection. I have a 10 mpbs cable connection but my net wont drop. I can playing my xbox 360 that is directly connectedand if im using my torrent program it will still randomly drop me, though my router is still connected to me, i have no internet access.

I would try G mode only at 2.4Ghz and see how that does. 5Ghz is not good with major walls and suck in between our wireless device and the router. 5Ghz needs more of a direct line of sight with out a lot of obstructions in the way.
