DCS-932LB1 will detect sound but not motion
« on: March 17, 2015, 11:00:07 AM »

Hello, I recently purchased a DCS-932LB1 camera along with a DNR-202L. I setup the camera and I am suppose to get e-mail notifications whenever sound and motion is detected. However, when I am logged into the camera via the ip address, I receive the message "Please visit http://www.java.com to download and install Java" under detection areas when I am in Setup --> motion detection. I have IE explorer 11 and I know this dlink java thing has been an ongoing issue. I've done a lot of searching and I can't find any remedies on how I can set the detection areas because I'm pretty certain that's why my alerts for motion aren't occurring. I am getting e-mail alerts with pictures for sound so my e-mail is setup correctly.

Camera Name   DCS-932LB1
Time & Date   02 Aug 2015 10:45:54 P.M.
Firmware Version   2.00 (2014-05-27)
Agent Version   2.0.17-b70

I can also confirm that these newer revision B of the 932L camera's DO NOT detect motion as per previous poster on the above firmware "2.00".  Sound detection works (this is a new addition to the older firmware 1.x on the revision A hardware).

Also, I upgraded the firmware as below; And can confirm that visual motion detection is still BROKEN.

Camera Name   DCS-932LB1
Time & Date   02 Aug 2015 10:58:33 P.M.
Firmware Version   2.10.03 (2015-05-14)
Agent Version   2.0.19-b35

Try a factory reset then setup from scratch to see if this may fix the Motion problem...

Reset twice;

1. setup with motion enabled first prior to activating ftp.
2. setup with ftp details first and always upload snapshot (no motion detection).

Result;  (No motion jpg recorded).

But on both reset's with setup, the ftp server clearly show's the camera logging in but NOT saving a jpg (in the event of motion being triggered).

I would say that the motion daemon is correctly seeing the difference in the images and attempting to trigger a motion event.  As per the ftp login.  But it fails to save a jpg.

::Additionally: Timed snapshots upload successfully without motion and test uploads work as expected.  But motion is still broken.

I also reflashed the camera again with the latest firmware after a 3rd factory reset just to make sure I had a totally clean / fresh firmware still without success.

Thoughts:
I don't think there is anything wrong with the hardware,  but if "motion" is at a guess the same software as "lavrsen's" motion then I would say it needs a good look through a cross compiler.   I'm too busy atm with my current gig to go through the source but if this isn't fixed before the end of October by a firmware update then I may well take a good look at it properly.

It seems that motion explicitly requires detection area's on the new firmware as opposed to the old one taking in the full scene by default.

I would still say this requires a firmware fix as it's misleading from the options menu for "activating" motion when no tile selection results in zero detection.   As per the original poster,  if the java applet isn't loaded or a user is setting up on a mobile device without d-links software then it results in what appears to be a defective motion daemon. When in fact it's merely idle as it's no co-ordinates tiled to detect against.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.
