Fixes a problem that I had with "connected devices."  Used to only show some, while the Lite mobile app showed all.  Now it shows all.

I'm having a problem with IP reservations.  Seems to be limited to ~24, and when I exceeded that and freed some up, I still get the same error message that I've exceeded the IP reservation limit.

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?
PC Web Browser Configurations
What browser are you using?
Try IE11 or FF?
When you say freed up, how did you free up the reservation? I presume that you were cable to disable the reservation, save the setting then reboot the router?

It's recommended to set static IP addresses on devices that don't need much or any router management. Devices like, Cameras, NAS, controllers, printers and some phones are suggested devices to use for static IP addresses and not reservations. This help keep those devices that really need IP reservations available for that method.

24 has been kind of a standard for D-Link routers. I don't know the reasoning behind limiting to 24. I know there was a memory pool at one time that combined use and features and reservations was a factor. I don't know the details though and we might never know. You'd think they could increase the limit since most average households have anywhere from 10 to 30 devices.  ::) However again, some devices don't need router management thus don't need a reservation.

Thanks for the reply Furry.

I'm in Colorado.

Using Chrome as browser.

I freed up the reservations by going to CONNECTED CLIENTS and disabling RESERVE IP in all but 10 of my listed devices (should allow 24).  That cleared the problem for most of the devices--I could then add more--except for two--a Samsung tablet and a Samsung S5 phone.  For those two I get the same message, "The maximum number of permitted DHCP reservations has been exceeded."  Interestingly, I get the same error message if I just try to change the names of these devices, leaving the RESERVE IP status as disabled.  I can manage to rename it only if I put it into Parental Controls.  The problem is the same whether I make the ranges of the devices with RESERVE IP enabled inside or outside the range of DHCP-assignable addresses in the router.

I took your advice and created STATIC IP addresses for two printers, vice DHCP reservations.  I programmed those printers with static IP addresses outside of the DHCP range of IP addresses set in the router.  But I could do that for only two of my devices.  My four Google NEST cameras and three Google CHROMECAST devices don't allow setting static IP addresses.

Another quirk I've noticed is the router does not allow selecting channels in either the 2.4 or 5 GHz bands (that I've found, anyway).  On the 5GHz high band, it puts the signal right on top of the only other 5 GHz network in the neighborhood (channel 157).

One more quirk. I set up a GUEST ZONE network then disabled it.  The router continued to advertise the SSID on 5GHz, so I tried to select it from my cellphone which said it was disabled.  I resolved that issue by renaming the GUEST ZONE network, but leaving it disabled (without enabling it even for a short while).

I'd like you to try using IE11 and or FF and see if you have the same behavior. What is the version listed for Chrome?

You could leave the devices that can't be set to Static as a Dynamic address and not reserved. NEST controllers and chromecast don't need a static or reserved address. Did Google by NEST?  ???

If you disable Smart Connect, you should have drop down menu selection to manually set channels.

I saw an odd behavior like this on the DIR-880L: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=59562.msg269587#msg269587 I'll have D-Link review this.

Thanks again for replying.

The issue is the same on Microsoft Edge (ver 25 on Windows 10), Firefox (just downloaded current version), and Chrome (ver 52).

All three browsers report 25 total devices connected, 13 of which have IP RESERVATION enabled.  On certain devices (one Samsung tab, one Samsung phone, and a NIXPLAY device (shows pictures from the NIXPLAY cloud) I cannot rename them, enable IP RESERVATION, or even take the one out of PARENTAL CONTROL enabled status and activate it again.  In every case--trying to rename, set IP RESERVATION, or disable PARENTAL CONTROL, I get the same message: "The maximum number of permitted DHCP reservations has been exceeded."  Maybe related to having exceeded the the magic number 24 -- total devices connected, not IP reserved (which is only 13)?

The tip on disabling SMARTCONNECT worked.

And yes, Google bought NEST in Jan 2014.  $3.2B.  Not a very happy merger there from what I read.

Ok. I presume that doing a factory reset will clear all of this out and setting up just the devices that needs reservations should begin  to work.

I'll pass this on to D-Link support regarding the reservations and re-naming problems. Seeing a similar issue with the 890L as well.

Smart Connect is automatic so the only thing you can change is the SSID name when it's enabled. All other features are hidden until SC is disabled.

Not a fan of Google.  >:( Oh well as long as my 2 NESTs work.  ::)

After doing a factory reset do you think I can reload the saved config file (.bin) and not replicate the same problems?

You can try that and see. I would use IE11 or FF to test that.
Did you have all the reservations set before you saved the config to file?

I did a factory reset and then uploaded the config file with my firewall and reserved IP settings.  Same problems, in all three browsers.

Guess next I'll try a factory reset and redo all my settings manually.   :'(

Keep the back up file on hand.
Thanks for doing the reset and from scratch.

Let us know.

I restored it to factory default settings then rebuilt every table by hand (without loading the old config file).

Basically the same problem.  This time, on the CONNECTED CLIENTS screen I can set the NAME and/or enable RESERVE IP for 21 devices.  After that, I cannot rename or reserve IP.   Only 9 devices have RESERVE IP enabled.  I have set the NAME for all 21 so I can recognize them. New devices can still connect to the network, obtain an IP addr within the DHCP range, but I cannot rename them or reserve IP.

Ok, thanks for the detailed test info. I'll get this to D-Link. I hope all of this will be fixed on the next update. Same issue seen on the 890L and 880L.  ::)

I just experienced the same issue with my new DIR-895L. Spent 3 hours on the phone with D-link support and the issue was not resolved. After reading your post, I logged on to my new DCS-50009L camera and changed the settings to a Static IP. Then i setup Port Forwarding on the DIR-895L using the Static IP. To my surprise it worked.

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.

What problem were you having with the camera?  ???
