Dear D-link!

Unfortunately, the latest firmware (v1.05WWb05) doesn't working good. :-(
Connection via PPPoE: ok
Ping for any valid address: ok
Traceroute for any valid address: ok
Web pages: not working, except some (for example: www.facebook.com)
WiFi connection working, but the internet service on it also not working.
I think it will be a kind of DNS problem.
Backward to fw_103b01 everything working good.
What will be the problem? After I updated the newest fw, should I set the factory default on the 879?
After the factory default the newest fw will working properly?
Please analyze this problem?

Thanks,
Laslo

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router. Be sure to log into the Admin account on the router.

  • Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options, Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
  • Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual or under Setup/PARENTAL CONTROL/Set to>None: Static IP or Obtain Automatically From ISP.
  • Enable or Disable Use Unicasting (compatibility for some ISP DHCP Servers) and test under Setup/Internet/Manual. Disable may help with speed performance on higher speed ISP services.
  • Turn on or off DNS Relay under Setup/Networking. Link>Finding Faster DNS Addresses using Name Bench and input new DNS addresses under Setup/Internet/Manual.
  • Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting and maintain consistency for applications that need to connect as well as mapped drives.
  • Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
  • If IPv6 is an option on the router, select Local Connection Only under Setup/IPv6.
  • Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall. Enable or Disable SPI to test.
  • Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules. Enable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming for routers that have a Media Server option. Disable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming if IPv6 or Media Server is not being used.
  • WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed

Dear FurryNutz!

I’m live in Hungary.
I’m wired connected to the DIR-897 (HW version: A1).
I did a factory reset with 1.0.3, and then updated to 1.0.5.
After update I did also a factory reset, but the problem also exist.
My browser: Firefox 55.0.3 (64 bit)

My ISP is RCD&RDS (in Hungary: Digi), and I connected to the internet with GPON (FFTH).
The DIR-897 directly connected with Cat5E cable to the ZTE ONT (modem).
I use PPPoE connection, and I get dynamic public IP.
Connection speed: 1000M down, 200M up.

I tried every settings that you wrote to me, but none of that solve the problem.
I thing this fw not working properly in EU (for example www.facebook.com, www.instagram.com and www.youtube.com working, but most of the sites haven't downloaded. One of the Hungarian pages has not been downloaded!
Web surface: Management/Upgrade/Check New Firmware -> This firmware is the latest version
At his moment I use 1.0.3. and the new fw checking doesn’t find any newer fw.

Are you using FW from your regional D-Link support site or from dlink.com?

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

On the local site the 1.03b01 is the latest version. I'm waiting for the newer one... Sometimes I will check the update via 879 web surface.
Thanks for your help!

A suggestion for the next firmware update: please add an option to control the light of the LED, it's too bright! I have to cover during the night

Dear Support,

The problem is still exists, I have bought a DIR-879 router today and after I tried updated from US and German site, they are caused the same issue as lacika76 said. On regional site(Hungary) there is just only datasheet what you can download, no firmware option. When will be it fixed? Because this is my first D-Link router, but it really might be the last one also.

Thank you and regards.

Does Dynamic DHCP do anything different instead of using PPPoE?

Yes it does, with DHCP the router could not connect to the internet, because with this type of connection there is no user authentication.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. Your regional D-Link support office will need to review and handle this. I presume this maybe an ISP/Router issue. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
