Title: My DSM-510 does not keep settings after power off/on cycle.
Post by: bacole on November 22, 2007, 02:21:04 PM
I bought a DSM-510 in January of 2007 with firmware version 1.01 if I remember correctly.
I connected it to a LCD TV  and used the HDMI connection.
I successfully upgraded to firmware 1.02 and it continued to work well.

Unfortunately, after I upgraded to firmware 1.03, everytime I turn  off the DSM-510 and then turn it back on, it takes me to the initial setup  screen.

It is not saving any of my settings, especially annoying is that I have to connect the composite video to see the setup and then set it to HDMI and it works with the HDMI output until I turn it off or lose power to it.

I contacted tech support and case DLK398813692  was assigned.  I tried using the "reset" option in the menu to reset to factory defaults and then configure it with my desired settings and the settings were still not saved after a power off and power on cycle.

I kept hoping another firmware upgrade would solve my problem, but even after doing available firmware upgrades in order, including version 1.07 I still have a problem.

After firmware 1.07, it seems to be saving most of my configuration settings, but most noticeable is that it NEVER keeps the setting for video to the HDMI port, and I always have to connect the composite video temporarily to  select the HDMI output.

I have called the 877-453-5465  on 3 different days and stayed on the line waiting for a representative for an hour or more each time until the support system disconnected me.

Should the DSM-510 keep all user configuration settings through a loss of power and also though turning the unit off and on with the remote control?

My 1 year warranty is about to expire and I need some resolution to fix mine or get a replacement.
I'll try any suggestions for getting mine to save settings!

Bacole,

Although originally you seemed to be having problems with settings being saved it appears that is mostly resolved and that now you are only experiencing issues with the HDMI port. The DSM-510 "auto-detects" the video port every time the unit is powered on and off. If your HDMI TV is not communicating properly when the DSM-510 first boots up then it will revert to the Composite RCA port. Couple questions that would help are.

What Brand and Model # TV are you using?

Is this TV HDMI 1.1 or 1.3?

And also you stated before that 1.02 was booting without any issues what so ever? What hardware revision is your DSM-510?

Thanks for the reply, but my problem still exists with the HDMI port.  I am connecting the DSM-510 to a Sharp 26" LCD  720P  screen.  If I connect it only with the HDMI cable, it does not "auto sense" and set the DSM-510 to the HDMI /digital output mode.  It always requires that I reconnect the composite video output to the LCD TV after I power the DSM-510 off and back on.

This is the exact same Sharp 26" LCD that this DSM-510 used to work well with the HDMI connection..... at least up until either version 1.02 or 1.03  when one of those upgrades resulted in the HDMI connection no longer working after a power off.

The setup options of the DSM-510 include the option to select the ANALOG or DIGITAL output, so it would seem that the output could be manually selected.

The Hardware version of my DSM-510 is A1   and the original firmware version was 1.00  according to the label on the back of the device.  The serial number is F35E16B001755

I have several Dlink routers, wireless access points, switches, print server etc etc. I have been pleased with every Dlink device except this DSM-510.

The one year warranty is about to expire and I want to get this issue resolved or get a replacement DSM-510  soon.

I appreciate your continued assistance.

Is the next DSM 510 firmware release expected soon?  If not, I'll check into the process of getting an RMA

I am very sorry but we do not yet have a release date for the next firmware update.

I'm having the exact same problem.  After a power off/on, the dlink "forgets" it's connected via an HDMI cable.  When the unit is powered on, the TV shows there is a video signal being sent to it for a second (it shows 720p) on the screen, then says "no connection".  I'm using a 32" viewsonic.  I've also connected it to my 47" philips and still the same problem.  I don't think it's a t.v. issue.  (Plus, the fact that it "used" to work with my tv.).

I will say this though:  The firmware has been greatly improved since the 1.0 days.  I'm looking forward to the next upgrade that will "hopefully" fix the hdmi issue.

DLINK:  Please always list the problems that firmware upgrades resolve so we can make an informed decision as to upgrade or not.  Thank you.

Just bought the DSM 510 today, wireless setup, hdmi, everything working fine...updated it to the latest firmware and now the hdmi doesnt work.  I have a Sony Bravia XBR 32" LCD and Im having the same problem on my 46" Samsung LCD.

Is there a way to roll back the firmware to 1.02?

If you are having this issue here is a link providing firmware that will roll you device back to 1.02 code. This is a quick fix for the time being until firmware is release to provide all the current updates and proper HDMI detection on the DSM-510 rev_A1.

There is now firmware 1.08 available for the Revision A1. This fixes the HDMI issue resetting to default after reboot. This firmware is available to download from the support site. USB update only.
