Furry I know D-Link just came out with the AC1900 router and was wondering if they have an AC2300 or AC3200 in the works.

Noticed you posted a link: DIR-880L on sale.  I truly enjoy the use and the performance of my DIR-880 router, i.e., well-pleased with it.  I've been thinking of perhaps getting a range extender for inside of the garage in order to cover the backyard when I am outdoors in the summertime doing the  yard work.  My DIR-880L is in the basement and covers the full inside of the house (upstairs) surprisingly very well.  Somewhat wish that the DIR-880L had a Extender mode since that would seal the deal and I'd save up some cash for another one.  I like the price of the D-Link DAP-1650 Extender which I'd piggyback the 5GHz WiFi from the DIR-880L and Extend only the 2.4GHz band - seems the most efficient way of doing it for me especially since my budget phone only uses Wireless-N on 2.4GHz.  I also noticed that TP-Link has a couple of desktop Extenders but I am not loyal to them.  I image some people mistakenly confuse D-Link and TP-link as being the same company but to the best of my knowledge they're not part of the same entity.  Anyways, I do wonder whether a D-link DAP-1650 in the garage would blanket the backyard with a reliable connection.  I don't know whether the DAP-1650 is s a high-power Extender or not.  It seems to get good reviews but I do have application specific concerns insofar as it's range (power output), etc.

Ya, I've been happy with my 880L over all and like the flexibility of Bridge mode. I took it with me on a trip last year to my families place and used it as a bridge fro xbox gaming connected to a DIR-868L.

TP-Link and D-Link are not related.  ::)

I think the DAP-1650 will be good. Javalaywer whom has left the forums got one a while back and connected it to his DIR-868L and said he saw good performances. I don't remember what mode he had it in thought.  :-[

I know that the DIR-885L has extender mode and I think the DIR-879 does. I'll have to check again. I think the 1650 would be best suited for your needs though.

Furry, what's your opinion of the DAP-1665 in comparison of the DAP-1650 ? ? ?

The 1665 is the business class version. I had thought about getting this one however I assumed that I would not be using it to it's fullest ability as it's intended for business class environments. I believe in keeping home and business class products separate.  ;)

Thanks again.  I was thinking that it might have better range with the outboard antennas but the internal antennas should be fine.  Each of my two routers uses external antennas, therefore I have no experience whatsoever with gear that uses inside antennas.

Cool picture of the internal antennas.  I will re-set my sights upon the DAP-1650.

I'm holding off on buying the DAP-1650.  I wouldn't use it upstairs for outdoor coverage until next Spring.  Also, I like the fact that the DIR-879 includes the Extender mode but the reviews on Amazon pertaining to the DIR-879 have caused me some confusion (and slight concern).  In other words, I still have some thinking to do.  Wish I knew which would provide the best coverage (power and distance) since I am trying to achieve WiFi coverage outdoors.  Well, I guess I have lots of time to think about it.  Meantime, I will continue to enjoy the use of my D-Link DIR-880L router which covers the entire inside of house from in the basement.  It's the ideal router without being overly costly.

Today, I went into the local OfficeDepot which it had always carried D-Link networking products in store.  No D-Link products on the shelf whatsoever, very unusual to me.  They're now selling TP-Link products in store.  That's just not right to me, no D-Link.  I always enjoyed looking at (and reading) the D-Link product boxes, etc., plus I bought my DIR-880L and former DIR-655 from there which I am well-pleased with each.  I should have asked the Store Manager, what's in the world is going on here...

IM sure maybe they were weeding out prior stock and maybe haven't ordered any new stock. Hard to tell.

I bought my first D=Link cam at Staples, a dcs-2132L.

Looks like the merger was blocked earlier this year in May between the two.

Office Depot still shows D-Link products online

*edit* - those online prices are way outside of market rate.. $199 for a dcs-2132l?  10/100 unmanaged switches for $24?  ummm.... good grief...

*disclosure* I did buy my first laptop (HP/Vista) in 2008 from Office Depot for ~$750... and was happy with the price at the time, and it lasted me quite a while... a couple hard drives later... and now suffering spending WEEKS to install MS updates... I'm surprised the computer hasn't melted down yet running at 75% processor for weeks.
