D-Link DSL G256DG - Unable to ping between devices
« on: June 10, 2016, 07:23:24 AM »

Hello,

I have a D-Link DSL G256DG router which was provided to me by my ISP, could not find a manual for the router anywhere.
Its firmware version is BZ_1.00.23.
In my home network, some WIFI devices are associated to the router via the 2.4GHz  band and some devices are associated to the router via
the 5GHz band. The router is configured with DHCP enabled. each band has its own SSID (using same SSID did not help).
IPs are granted to the devices by the router, both to the devices on the 2.4GHz band and to the devices on the 5GHz band so actually all devices are on the same sIP network: 192.168.0.XX with  subnet 255.255.255.0

Problem: devices which are associated on the 2.4GHz can ping each other, devices which are associated on the 5GHz can also ping each other,
however a device which is associated on the 2.4GHz band fails to ping a device which is associated on the 5GHz band. It seems that some routing between the WLAN interfaces / BSSIDs is missing. all devices show that their default gateway is 192.168.0.201 (the router's IP internal maintenance IP).

This is a major problem as for example my WIFI network printer can associate only to the 2.4GHz band so devices which are connected on the 5GHz band can not access it and print.

Appreciate your support. Maybe a manual is also available.
Regards,

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?

IF this modem is provided by the ISP, then they should have more support and information regarding this modem. ISP sometimes use D-Link HW and put there own FW on it and handles support for it.

I'd look for something called WLAN Partition or AP Isolation in the modems UI and disable this. If you can't find any of this, I recommend that you contact the ISP about this for further help and information.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply.
I am located in Israel.
Actually I have discussed this with the ISP prior to posting in the forum and until now they do not have any idea how to to make this trivial thing working.

Indeed there is an option called "Clients Isolation" both in the 2.4GHz settings and in the 5GHz settings. Tried them both, enable and disable, unfortunately no luck and still no ping is available between devices which are associated on different bands.

I have screenshots but does not see a way to upload them in here

Appreciate your support
Thanks,

You might try your regional D-Link support office on the phone and see if they can review this and and help with some information.
