Shareport and ARP packages vs. Network security
« on: November 26, 2010, 05:05:56 AM »

Hello to everybody.

I'm using a DIR-655 home router and tried to use shareport with it. I wanted to share an USB printer. After some issues with Shareport 3.0 ("NO device detected"), i've downgraded to 1.15 and in the end it worked in my home network.

Now, I'm hitting another problem. It seems that the program is sending a lot of ARP packages to the switch. My company network security is blocking the switch-port after 10 "failed" ARP packets in order to protect against spoofing.

Having this reason, I am forced to return to my old way of printing: sending everything to the some computer and print from there :) The solution where I open the shareport utility ONLY home is not satisfactory.

Therefore, please, be careful when you have Shareport opened and move your computer to another network.

Wishing all a great day,
Sabin Ilie.
