DLNA problem
« on: October 14, 2017, 07:16:35 PM »

Hi,
I hope someone can help me with this problem, it's been driving me crazy.

My setup is, the cable modem is connected to a ASUS RT-AC87U router with a D-Link DIR-655 router connected to that as a AP. I then have a Synology NAS connected to that, hope that makes sense.
Pretty much all settings on the DIR-655 are disabled apart from WiFi which has all the same settings as the WiFi on the RT-AC87U.

I have a Samsung smart Blu-ray player which can connect to either router although it normally picks the RT-AC87U.
The problem is the Blu-ray player often can't see the NAS's DLNA media player. I've played about with it like you wouldn't believe and I MIGHT have found where the problem lies but can't swear to it.
It appears if the DLNA client connects to the DIR-655 which has the NAS connected to it everything's fine but if it connects to the RT-AC87U it can't see the DLNA server. So it's as if the DIR-655 isn't passing the DLNA broadcasts to the RT-AC87U probably.

Could someone perhaps help me with this as I'm all out of ideas.

Thanks

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

I would connect the NAS to the ASUS main host router and see if the play can see the NAS.

Be sure  that the DIR-655 is connected LAN to LAN AP mode:

Hi,
The hardware version is A2
The firmware version is 1.37EU
Region is UK

Just tried connecting it to the ASUS and sadly it just swops the problem the other way round. So basically the DLNA client has to connect to the same router as the NAS.
I don't understand why the DLNA broadcasts wouldn't be passed on to the other router.

I do indeed have the two routers connect to Lan port 1.

Thanks

If you have the 655 set up as stated in the link I posted, should work as a pass thru if you have the 655 and the main host router connected LAN to LAN. DO not use the WAN port on the 655.

As far as I can see, everything is set up in the same way as the link you gave me, only difference is I have used 192.168.1.2 for the secondary router.
As far as I can tell, everything else works fine, it's just the DLNA that's playing up.

Do does DLNA work if you connect both NAS and client to the 655 while in AP mode?

Yes, but any DLNA client connecting to the ASUS can't, it just swops the problem round.

I wonder if you put the 655 as main host router and use the ASUS as AP...

I'd rather not have it that way round, as the ASUS is much newer with more processing power so wanted that to handle the core network.

Not sure what else to try. Seems like DLNA isn't getting to and from either side. If the 655 is set up as expected, should work as a pass thru. Nothing should be blocking it. Could be something on the ASUS side as well.
