So the drive is a VENUS DS3 1.15Tb USB 3.0 Drive enclosure.

I tried my other NTFS Hitachi 320Gb laptop drive connected to a USB 3.0 to SATA adapter cable, no power on it's own:

With the VENUS DS3 drive, I was able to see the log in for \\192.168.1.1\41AS. However it failed and reported a network error.

Seems like it started the log in process then failed immediately afterwards.

Error very similar that I had.

Unfortunately DLink don’t know how to correct this error.

I hope that you have a better luck that mine.

No that is not the full device name ( in my case on the welcome page it's shortened from the correct name of "hgst_721010a9e630_00001" to just "721010A9E630") ; probably another parsing error just like with the variable length passwords .
Considering that the share name you've filled in doesn't exist the error you've received is normal .
The full device name can only be found by creating another user besides the default admin account and by going to System>User>Edit ( for that new user ) . There you'll find the section to choose what right to assign to that user ( Read or Read/Write ) for each specific service (Samba / FTP ) and in the "Browse" section you get to choose which is the root folder of the share (maybe you just want ti share just a folder not the whole drive ) . It is the value of the field "Folder" that you must append after the IP of the router when mapping it Windows Explorer . You can't find out the whole device name if you only have the admin account as it receives by default full access to the drive and you cannot edit it ( there is no edit Icon  for the admin user account ) .
How do you post images in line on the thread ; I've tried using both the [/img] and options with the image hosting link and embed code but at most I could do was to post was a working URL link ?

Ok, I didn't create a new user. I presume the Admin user should already work.  :-\

Overall, experience and operation is not good for USB drives on the 882. I think D-Link needs to look more into this and get this working. There too many steps in connecting a USB drive and trying to connect to it.
There needs to be clear information on how to do this.
Admin user should work with out additional configurations of the router or adding another user account.

I'll try adding a user and see what I find.

HQ sent me a step by step guide. Pretty much the same info as stated before:

Due to SMBv1 is not installed by default after Windows 10 version 1709, user should re-install the SMBv1 manually to negotiate with samba service on router.
When the SMBv1 is not installed, try to map network drive, Windows Explorer will pop-up network error message "Windows cannot access \\192.168.0.1".

You can enable SMBv1 on Windows 10 using the steps below:
1. Go into Windows Optional Features Window, Press Windows Key + R to bring up the run dialog and type: optionalfeatures

2. From the turn Windows Features on or off Window, expand "SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support" and then check the box next to "SMB 1.0/CIFS Client"

3. Click OK, then Restart now to reboot your Windows 10.

4. Run File Explorer, right click "Network", select "Map network drive..." again. Input \\192.168.01\ at Folder column, check "Connect using different
credentials", then click "Browse…" button.

5. Input the username and password of router. (admin works)

6. User will be able to select the root folder of USB storage.

7. Click Finish, the network drive will now be available to access with correct credential of router.

The admin account does work ; the issue is that if you only have the admin account you have no way to find out the full name of the USB device to be able to map that share name .
Once you know the device's name you can delete the other user and just use the admin account .

Ok, I'll add a user account and see what happens.

Again, should really have to do all this.  :-\

You don't really have to ; as I've previously stated (also GreenBay42 in his last post) if you just put \\<router_IP> in the address bar in Win Explorer and at the credentials prompt put in the admin/password you'll be presented in the Network Neighborhood with the root of the USB drive ( also it's full name ) . You can right click it and map it like that (you only need to know the drive's name if you initiate the manual mapping procedure)

Well I've tired those and as you can see, i'm seeing problems.

Hopefully D-Link will look more closely into this and find out whats going on. I'd like D-Link to come up with a concise and detailed step by step process on how users should connect and access the contents of there drives.
