Media Server wont refresh content
« on: October 20, 2015, 06:36:04 AM »

Hi,

Recently purchased a Dlink 860l router to make use of dual band wifi. As I had bought a WD My Passport Ultra 2 TB around the same time, I decided to use it as a network drive when Im at home, allowing me to play the content on several platforms.

After a few issues setting it up, I got it to work. My issue is that for some reason, the latest folders Ive added to the drive, do not show up when accessing the drive as a media server. It works fine through explorer and also through remote access. This is the same, whether Im connecting to the media server via my Panasonic TV or my laptop. I know the limit is officially 1 TB for the 860 but I only have around 250 gb of content on the HDD so that shouldnt be the issue. Should it?

Does anyone know why this is? Ive tried refreshing through shareport, rebooting the router etc. without any luck and Google couldnt help. Hoping Ive overlooked something extremely obvious :)

Im using HW version B1 and Firmware version 2.03

EDIT: A previous version of the content available is still visible through media servers even though some folders are renamed and some are deleted

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?

Usually a reboot of the router should be all thats needed then let the router re-catalog the contents of the drive.

What format is the USB drive using? NTFS is recommended.

You might try a small test drive and put some files on it and run some tests to see what happens...

Its using NTFS. Tried a small, plugged it in and it worked fine. Plugged the external HD in again, same issue. Tried deleting a few folders reducing the space used to around 200 gb. Didnt change anything.

Possible that this USB drive maybe too big. There is a 1Tb size limit when using drives on D-link routers. Anything over that would not be supported and or may not work right.
Is this 2Tb drive have Mfr formatting or standard windows NTFS formatting?
Is there alot of data already on this drive?

Only thing I would try is to back up any data on this drive, the do a full Windows partition reset and format NTFS in Windows. Then start from scratch and test.

At most my 2Tb drive works on various routers however doesn't on some newer routers.
