Any recomendations for hard drive size to start
« on: June 22, 2016, 05:09:30 PM »

I am presently looking at purchasing a DNR-322L and was wondering the size of hard drives to get. Not knowing how much data/time I can record for a given size. I presently have 4 HD cameras and may add 2 more in the future and hope to be able to record ( motion detection only ) for at least 7 days. I am looking at traveling abroad for a few months at a time, bucket list time, and may not be able to access internet while traveling.
I am trying to figure out what size to get, I have been looking at  2TB WD purple surveillance drives, but am not sure how much time I can record on them. Also if I buy only 1 first and then add a second later. The data pre recorded can be erased and either go total 4 TB or Raid1 and only have 2 TB but safety of data.
Any suggestions.

Thanks Bob

Which "HD" cameras do you have?

Motion detection only should be okay unless you mess up the settings and make it too sensitive. (Maybe you will use PIR).

Do these cameras have SD Cards?  You could get some 32GB cards and record to there also.
Do these cameras have H264 compression?

On my DCS-2230-5 with F/W 1.20, with continuous recording, I see 3 days worth of files with 32GB SD Card using Profile 1 at 1920x1080 @ 15fps.

SD Card: /video/record Up One Level

Files per Page: 102050  Refresh 1 of 1

 20160622 21

I have 3 DCS-5222LB, and 1 DCS-2630L. on H624 compression.

I did not know you could simultaneously record on SD card as well as the DNR, so I only need 1 high capacity hard drive in DNR- 322L as single drive record and the SD card as backup.

Thanks Bob
