Router Quick VPN Connection problem
« on: March 10, 2017, 08:42:01 AM »

Hi
I have this DIR890L router for sometime.
The FW.1.10. It have been put into factory default, manually re-entred all the setting (routine procedure for every firmware update).

I use the same user id, password, psk for the Quick VPN setup. It is an identical setting prior the FW upgrade.

I use a iPhone, iPad via iPhone hotspot, samsung via iPhone hotspot to connect to the router VPN.

For the first time I tried to connect to the router VPN after the update, I was not able to get connect to get connected.

I rebooted the router. I was not able to get connected. Without changing any setting on the router nor the devices, I kept trying and somehow it is back to normal.

Next day, i tried again, I am not able to get connected.

What could be the problem

What the VPN feature working normally before you updated?
Is DNS Relay enabled or disabled

What is the Mfr and model if the ISP modem?

DNS Relay is enable.

Before the update, everything was working fine. No equipment nor setting have been changed.

Remote devices cannot get connected to the Router. The router is not responding to the connection.

The ISP modem from Bell is in Bridge mode. It is a Sagecom F@st2864 p/n253331686.

I have a Synology NSA running OpenVPN (using port forwarding). It had the same problem after the update, suddenly both router and OpenVPN back to normal.

Now only Router VPN is not working.

Can you test to see if any differs when DNS relay is disabled?
Do you have IP address reservations set up for devices that connect to the VPN?

So after you get reconnected and if you leave or the device disconnects from this router and later one comes back and tries to reconnect to the VPN, it fails?

I tried again as follow.

1) I tried with all the devices (iPhone, iPad and samsung) via iPhone hotspot to connect to router, all failed
2) I disable DNS relay, router reboot and tried all again. All successful.
3) I enable DNS relay. I wanted to verify if it is the cause of the problem. I tried with all the devices. All Successful.

Inconclusive finding.

I guess the reboot and/or enable/disable VPN may resolve the VPN connection problem.
But, how can I reboot/reset the router remotely if it happens again? There is a reliability issue.

There is no IP address reservation for remote device. Once it is connected, remote device will have ip address 192.168.100.2, router 192.168.100.1.

I repeated 30 times connect/disconnect with VPN router, with 3 failures. I hope it stay working.

Thank you for your assistance.

If you enable remote management or associate the router with mydlink.com, you can remotely reboot the router...
