All light on front panel (except power) flas once every 15s
« on: February 20, 2016, 11:10:16 AM »

I found my new dir 625 still boxed and wrapped, never been used, opened yes, but never used, I wanted to change my main wifi router from an N to a G but when I powered up the 625 the power light stayed green but 15 seconds later all lights on the front panel briefly flashed, and continues doing this until I power off the router, the network icon just stays there at 'Connecting.....' then times out, I have tried using the reset button, and even the emergency flash procedure, but as soon as power is applied, the router goes into an endless reboot cycle. no panel lights, then 15s later a brief flash of all lights, then nothing for 15s, and so on.

Is there something internal that can be shorted to force the router into the emergency flash mode?, or is the router just nothing but a pile of useless plastic and fit for the receiving end of a hammer?

I do have a second  625 that I'm currently using as a network switch with DHCP disabled and using ethernet auto IP from the primary router, which is in the garden shed, for my workshop, and that one works perfectly.

Try swapping power adapters to see.
Check the power adapter for correct output voltages.

Sorry for the late reply.

I tried various 625 power supplies and the router still does the same,,, I'm thinking that somewhere down the line, someone tried to flash it and failed and returned it, and was put back on the shelf for some other shmuck to buy it.

Might see if this works:
Emergency Recovery Mode

This model may not support it however worth a try.

According to that page, this is a warning about the recovery:-

"Use this is only if a Factory Reset using the button in back fails to bring the router to a ready state."  the problem is, that the router does not settle to a steady state, but pauses for about 15 seconds, then reboots, and repeats indefinately.

Would be ok in this case to see if it support recovery, then if so, manually load the FW file. This may help in re-seating of the FW and ram values and maybe clear up the reboot problem. No guarantees though. Worth a try.
