Title: Motion Detection vs PIR, can someone explain?

What is the difference between enabling standard Motion Detection, vs PIR ?  I thought that the PIR was the motion detection mechanism.  Can somone please explain why would enable motion detection only, vs also enabling PIR?

To my understanding the PIR detection is based on a separate sensor (Passive Infrared) within the camera whereas the "standard" motion detection is based on analyzing the video frames from the actual CCD camera by firmware. By using the firmware based motion detection mechanism you can define the sensitive areas of the image whereas the PIR sensor doesn't have this kind of intelligence, i.e. it just reacts to the infrared (heat) radiation of nearby objects.

That is correct answer.

Pir shouldn't be affected much indoors with cloudy days.
Pir doesn't work through a window.
Pir  might be affected by your hvac vents.
