Title: DIR-655 & 3G modem Huawei E176
Post by: mateuszkj on May 06, 2010, 10:32:57 AM
Hello,

Did someone managed to run the Huawei E176 with the DIR-655 (version A3)?
Thought about buying this 3G modem but cannot find the information that the modem works with the DIR-655. And D-Link support didn't answer me for a week.

Hi,

I had to buy huwaei e220 to make 3g usb work. (picked one for cheap £8 - plus v.easy to unlock & free)

It is pretty stupid Dlink does not list what 3g modems it supports. You have to bear in mind this is an "old router" - i think 3years since it came out.

For each 3g modem, Dlink must add the 3g modem firmware to the router - so it just seems that it has not bothered to do so except for the very old e220. It is not surprising as they are still fixing errors in their own firmware 3 years on  :o

Probably best to call tech support and get a definitive answer - it either has the firmware / support for your 3g modem or not ?

Instruction how to install 3G modem

Hi,

No information on UK site.

Any links in english???

Again, this information does not help the user who posted this thread. Also, the links suggest you need  a dlink dongle.

This again suggests a lack of understanding that this router supports different 3g usb sticks.

Namely, huwaei e220. The user asked wheteher his 3g modem is supported and  not advice to buy another modem which costs £65 in uk as opposed to the e220 which i picked up for £8.

This again is a not a definitive answer to the problem, hence why I suggested contact dlink directly as opposed to third party dis-information from someone who has not actually experienced the issue at hand.

Thanks.
