Title: DLNA missing files
Post by: Damjan on December 16, 2018, 05:42:16 AM
Hi, I have another problem  :P

When I connect external drive to router, a lot of files on TV are missing.
I don't know how to refresh the list.

Any suggestions?

What do you mean by missing?
Check the TV specs to see what file formats are supported by the TV.
What file formats are supported by the TV?

Do other devices see the files from the drive connected to the router?

Check with the TVs mfr and file formats and refresh options.

Thanks for reply.

It is not that TV doesn't support file formats. Files with same format are missing, acctually some folders are missing too.
I have folders: movies, pictures and songs.

Only folder movies is visible and only a few movies are visible out of many.
No pictures (files or folders) and no songs.

It is not TV issue bacause I tried to open files on samsung galery application and I can see same as on TV.

I can see all files and folders if I look throught samba.

Have you rebooted the router while the USB drive is attached and ON? I remember years ago that a router needed to be rebooted to refresh the file list with a USB drive connected when the drive was updated with files.

I'll pass this on to D-Link for review.

What are you using on your TV to view files?

Which model TV do you have?

If Sony, some basic info on DLNA use - https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/articles/00126002 (https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/articles/00126002)

It is strange some folders are missing too. If you have a Windows computer, connect the USB drive to it and do this - https://www.howtogeek.com/215400/how-to-turn-your-computer-into-a-dlna-media-server/ (https://www.howtogeek.com/215400/how-to-turn-your-computer-into-a-dlna-media-server/) (option 1) and see if the issue follows the drive/TV or the router.

I have Philips 4K TV 55PUS6561, Android.

Yesterday I tried connect both drives, one in USB2.0. and second in USB3.0.

USB 2.0. updated file list and everything work as it should. USB 3.0. remain with 5 files and missing folders. It doesn't update file list.

It is strange that I can't connect USB 3.0. drive without power supply to USB 2.0. It just doesn't work.

I can't call D-Link Support because there is no telephone number or I am missing something.

Are the missing files following the hard drive or the USB port?

Connect only 1 drive and test in both USB ports. Then test the other drive in both ports (while unplugging the other one).

Need to see if the issue is when 2 drives are connected at the same time, or if the issue is following the drive, or the USB port.

Missing files are following the hard drive.

Drive without additional power supply does not work on port 2.0. It does not start spinning.
When I connect both drives. The old drive works perfectly the new one stops at the same folder.

But I found something else ...
This few movies that I can always see stop at the same location. So I remove the folder that is the last one and indexing goes further. Well it stops again but it goes far.

I find a file that causes me a problem (I obviosly have a lot of them). And now I'm trying to figure it out what is wrong with this file.

I think the problem is caused by files.
DLNA have 2 issues.
1.It can't read file
1. If it find file that is unreadable it should skip it.

I'm still struggling with this problem.

Is there any chance that I can update miniDlna or manage it?

I managed to somehowe partial resolved this issue.

When dlna stops indexing I opened dnla server in windows media player. I added coloumn where I saw  all names added in dlna with prefix 1,2,3,4,...
So it was easy to find on which file indexing stops. I remove next file and indexing continued. I needed to remove several files, I don't know yet what those files are different from others.

I hope this will be helpful.

Does the indexing continue after you removed those files?
Possible those files were corrupt or not readable.
