Make Local backups case insensitive to file/folder names.
I know Ext 3 is case sensitive but in most cases this feature is rather annoying than useful.

Yes, the list is long, but I see the goal of this effort as several-fold. In an ideal world, we would like to see these items implemented in the next firmware release. Practically speaking, I think we will see some fraction of this list in the next firmware release, with more items integrated in future releases. Equally as important, I see this list as a guide for improving future DNS models.

JavaLawyer, do you work for D-Link?

No. I'm just a dedicated forum member and D-Link product user. Having worked in the software/hardware/IT industry for many years, I understand how substantive user feedback can positively impact product development. I firmly believe this list can provide D-Link with invaluable information to achieve that goal.

One useful addition would be an Instant Messaging  Client

I have often used IM clients on servers as a quick easy way to see if the server is online

I would the built in back up software to be a little more robust. When backing up from a source , it will only copy what is new or modified - which is good. But also an option to automatically remove files from the destination if they no longer appear in the source location.

ie. if you use your NAS like me for back up purposes from a media only hard drive , I sometimes clean up the source drive and move stuff around. The NAS box copies the new data that I've moved but doesn't delete the old data. - Does that make sense.

Great idea. This is one shortcoming that I have with my DNS-343s. I have to run a third-party backup solution from a PC once a week to delete the files in the destination HDDs that are no longer in the source HDDs.  ;D

Hi
I have a few things I would like to see..

General- airprinter support for the print server
General - log file for backups ( both local and external)
General - alerts can be sent for backups/and the log file sent too.
(note I send an alert at start of pc backup and an alert at end with log file - this lets me know what is going on!)
