What wireless modes are you using?
What Frequencies are you using, both 2.4 and 5Ghz or one or the other?
What happens if you only use one frequency at a time?

- Wireless mode 2.4ghz G and B
- Wireless mode 5 ghz N and A
- I use both frequencies

The 2.4ghz seems to be more reliable (i have fewer errors of the 5 ghz). The situation is the same if i use one or both frequencies.

Do you use any devices that need A and B modes? Usually most current devices don't need B mode so I've experienced this and usually tell others to turn off those modes that are not needed. No need to broadcast modes that you don't use.

2.4Ghz is more reliable since it's not impacted by things like walls and doors and building materials as much as 5Ghz is due to it's high frequency. 5ghz is best used in line of sight or at most, one wall in between. 2.4Ghz should be great on single mode G and 5Ghz should be better on single mode N.

Any cordless house phones? yes but not near to AP> How far away and what frequencies do the run?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? yes> How many? I recommend using InSSIDer to see whos near by and what frequencies and channels they are using.

What modes and security r u using in the router? Makes sure the devices are supporting of N modes and try using TPIK security or auto. Most new devices support N and AES however. Be sure u are connecting to your SSID. Change the SSID for wifi to  something other than dlink.

Thanks for the help FurryNutz

Finally, the mistake was this:

The option "WMM Enable" was disabled in the Advanced Wireless Settings menu. If not enabled not connecting to wifi N the Ipad2
