GPL Source FW 1.04
« on: December 20, 2013, 10:50:45 AM »

Hi,

where to get the Sourcecode of FW 1.04 ? Only see 1.0

Quote
If you make available software/firmware updates via Internet, and the update or software/firmware image contains GPL software, you have to provide the corresponding source code for every single version.

And 2 Mbit Limitation still present. ::)

There maybe no sources for v1.04. You'll need to phone contact D-Link to see if there is any sources.

I don't see the 2Mb limitation being fixed on the 857/827/657 unfortunately. We've asked about it and there has been nothing said about it...If you phone contact D-Link support, I'd ask about while your on the phone with them and see...

My english is not that good that i could phone them.
I already wrote an mail months ago but never got an answer.

If the use (and they do) GPL Source they must provide the Sourcecode of every Version.

I guess that 2 Mbit Limitation will never be fixed.

Does the QoS of the DGL 5500 work with more then 2Mbit Upload?
Or is there some other Router with StreamEngine and able to do Qos on more then 2 MBit Upload?

The L series routers have higher supporting UP Link QOS as well as the 5500 however the 5500 is not sold or supported out side the NA region. Sorry.

Hmm.

Okay i got an answer from D Link Support.
There are no plans to change the 2Mbit Limitation, sadly.
And they also dont want to release the SourceCode of the 1.04 Firmware.
Isnt this a GPL Violation?

D-Link has already released code for other versions, you'd have to see if it's required for every version.

Hmm you want to say that because there are new router models coming, there is no priority to fix other routers firmware?

Yes it seems that with every new firmware release that uses gpl sourcecode the source must also be provided.

i can only find source code of firmware 1.0 where can i get the "other" versions?

We've asked about it. I presume that in the most recent versions of FW, that if they haven't made any adjustments for fixed it, I don't think there is going to be any thing done.

New router models are already out there and they have the new TS engines that have selectable higher Uplink speeds. That engine is based off of the DIR-645. Up to 10Mb currently for Users that have 10Mb ISP Uplink speeds.

It's possible that later versions of the 827 FW didn't use GPL code and may have been removed. You'd have to ask D-Link about this.

I already asked in my Ticket about the Source and that not providing it is an GPL Violation.

The answer was simply: We dont have it / releasing it.

the Firmware is based on Linux. So most of the Source (Kernel, Drivers, etc) are under the GPL.
So i dont think so that the newer DIR Firmwares arent using any GPL Source.

I see this:

There is 1.03 but also 1.04. But this are the compiled firmwares.

At the bottom there is the Source Code of 1.0.

Ok, my bad, thought I saw v1.03 GPL...not sure what to say here... If they won't release the GPL then it's on them I guess. I don't know why they won't.
