Hello, im really close to buy both dir-855 and along with the synology DS209+II device. the reason why that have not yet happend is because i still dont know if dir-855 even supports NAS configuration via ethernet cable. i been searching the web for information about the issue but i find the info i get really confusing seens some say it does support NAS via ethernet cable and some say it dont..
help me out on this one guys... thanks!

You can run anything over an Ethernet cable, so it is supported. The only question is if you do need to do it from WAN/Interent or is enough to do it from your LAN? If yes then you need to forward a port manually.

DIR-855 is working fine her with my 4 Synology NAS.

I'm using the WEB- and FTP services from Internet and also the LAN Speed is fine.
My fastest is the DS-209 (without +) but it achieves about 45MB/s in the internal networks.
DIR-855 and  Synology DS are a good pair.

so you can run both ways across WAN and LAN?
and this might be a stupid question so sorry for asking. but are you able to creat a folder under ''my computer'' just like if you would attach external USB device to you pc? and drag and drop files to that folder?

You can connect shares on the NAS as network drives and then drag and drop files - no problem.
And you can connect from WAN(Internet) via ftp and read/write files to your NAS.
You can build your own web-server and photo album.
You can automaticallydownload files/torrents with your NAS and and and ...

The limit is in most cases the bandwidth of your internet connection.

Can you share your Synology and dir855 settings how you got this to work?
Everything worked with my (broken) netgear.  I have not been able to get it working with the dir855
DIR855 is an A3 revision with 1.21.EU firmware
Synology is 2.3.1139 and I use SSL/TLS, Default port-range for passive FTP

Found the solution!!!
Synology:
Port#:21
Use Default Port range on Passive (Copy ports: 55536-55663)
Enable: Report external IP in PASV mode
Enable: Allow SSL/TSL connections only
DIR855
Virtual Server: FTP (defaults)
PortForwarding:Paste ports: 55536-55663
Save settings -> reboots router
I use FileZilla
ServerType FTPES
Transfermode: Active

This all seems to work...

I have a QNAP TS209 NAS and it works great.

I have it Ethernet connected to my DIR855 as well as a PS3. I can view all photos, music and video on the NAS via the PS3 on my Sony TV via a HDMI cable. HDMI enables upscaling to get getter picture quality.

I use Filezilla to FTA files to and from my NAS as it is faster.

I use Network magic to map the NAS drives to all my computers but you can also use file explorer in windows to manually map drives.

You need to set up a home network via windows and ensure media streaming is enabled in windows 7 media player.

I also can wirelessly steam from my NAS to a remote PC and wireless stream from my PC to my TV via a PS3.

The Key is to either get a DLNA enabled TV or use a DLNA enabled xbox 360 or PS3 and having an DLNA enabled NAS. You should be on windows 7 as Vista is flakey at best.
