« on: September 12, 2016, 10:28:37 AM »

If I want to add IR illumination to my DLINK cams to improve night vision, what is he proper wavelength device to purchase? IR 850 or 940 nm (nanometers)???? Can someone recommend a good outdoor weatherproof one?

All the cameras from Dlink glow red and are visible - so they are probably around 850nm imho.

940nm should not be visible to you, and it might work on the camera.

See example video here:

The one I bought glows red, and it runs really really HOT.  Maybe like 130F if I remember correctly.   I wouldn't put it next to your curtains or blinds.  If a bird made a nest - I bet that would catch fire.

I plan to mount it outside. Even then the temp scares me. Are their lower temp ones?

It depends on the amount of lights in it.

I think the one was rated "45 ft" and was massive.
The other one was rated "25 ft" and 1/3 the size.

Newer/different ones might be different (but unlikely?).  I picked these up from tigerdirect.com? back in the day.

Found the post.

Found a bunch of reviews on Amazon.  Looks like a total mess and these overheat. lol!

I only used them to test and haven't used them in a several years since.
