The RavenShoeSecurity.com service does not offer live viewing of the video stream or capturing of the video stream. However we do capture the snapshot stream. Live viewing of the video stream can be nicely handled by MyDlink.com. The RavenShoeSecurity.com and MyDLink.com services can be used at the same time without issue.
The RavenShoeSecurity.com system records the last 10,000 JPEG snapshots received from the camera over the Internet. There is no DVR, dedicated PC, camera management software, or other "on-site" appliance. Just a network camera, power, and Internet (WiFi or Ethernet).
If a DCS-930L or DCS-932L (our favourite) is setup as per our recommendations the system typically receives 1 to 3 snapshots per second when there is high activity. When viewed online, these images are assembled back into a video, which gives a clear depiction of what is going on. Snapshots are transmitted over the Internet fast - so viewing the latest images gives the latest information - within a few seconds. Snapshots are also low bandwidth - so retrieval over a lower bandwidth connection works well.
There also are some nifty playback features that will compress an entire day or an entire hour into a clip that lasts 20 seconds. This lets a person do a Quick View of a period of time to check for images of interest.
For recording we recommend the DLink DCS-942L with a micro SD. Set the motion detection to trigger a) sending snapshots to our service and b) recording video clips to the on-board micro SD at the same time. If you see images of interest on RavenShoeSecurity.com then you can use MyDlink.com to retrieve the video clip (with sound). The time stamp on the snapshot will line up with the time stamp on the video clip making cross referencing snapshots and video clips easy. Essentially our service becomes a snapshot index of the video clips that are physically stored in the camera on an SD.
One feature we do have that seems quite unique is unlimited camera sharing on a person by person basis. Enter another person's email address into the box provided on your RavenShoeSecurity.com home page and that person is invited to view the images from your cam. You can delete and black-out camera shares on a individual by individual basis.
And you can have as many cameras as you like as long as they all have unique names. And your cameras can be anywhere in the world where there is Internet service.
