Help me fix my 130$ paperweight
« on: March 23, 2010, 04:21:42 PM »

I'm about to throw this thing into my lake once the ice is gone.

I've replaced my cable modem, ruled out my ISP ruled out my PC as being the issue.

I've made probably 4 hours of tech support calls to D-Link with NO success just wee change some settings and reload firmware.

I cannot play video games with this thing, WoW, MW2 and WC3 all having issues <only games i play>

whenever im connected threw this thing wired or wireless it chokes, 200-800ms ping at random, chokes on the data freeze's up for 5-40 seconds and leads me to a disconnect or things speeding up to catch up.

whats going on with this brick?

I've never had such a PoS, I always swore by D-Link but never again.

Any idea's anyone?

I've been dealing with this for 3 weeks and I cant take it anymore, and unfortunately to broke to just go out and replace it.

Try the beta firmware on the FTP site - ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dir825_revB/

The link above is for Rev. B hardware. Not sure which model you have.

I had serious problems with WAN speed, and this Beta firmware fixed everything. Worth experimenting with.

Sorry, I was so frustrated when i posted this i left out vital info, its REV B 2.02NA ? anyway, they are RMA my device as we speak so we'll see what happens, it worked fine for a month then took a dump, hopefully faulty hardware, but I have a feeling firmware is to blame, yes my WAN Speed was intermittently Awful as well.

I RMA'd my device as well, waste of time, I got a unit back that was beat to high hell!

And to find out it was a firmware problem not a hardware. Check your settings (disable DNS relay, set WAN speed to 100). Things like that, or try updating your firmware to the beta or 3rd party stuff.

If i get a used one they are in for a problem, im within my time constraints for a brand new device.

got my RMA unit, brand new, good stuff.

doesnt spike like the old one <yet> but, i do have excessively high ping.

tried to update to the beta software, it says it does, resets for like 3 minutes, but then when your in it still says software version 2.02NA and not the beta.

any idea's?

also, I've not been able to view the 5ghz channel on either of the routers I've had its enabled..cant imagine i would have to do anything other than that, maybe im wrong.

As for the Beta firmware - my router also shows the same 2.02NA firmware after the upgrade, but check the date on it. Should be several months newer than the official firmware. Now this Beta is definitely not perfect. It has fixed my WAN speed but a few devices dont stay connected too long.

for the DIR-825 VER: B1  NA or WW can use this beta firmware from Singapore server:

ftp://203.126.164.142/DIR-825/Fixes%20HNAP/DIR825B1_FW201WWB06Beta02(0322194738)(0323111206).rar

Fixes port scan shows ports o and 1 closed, now show as stealth.
Fixes wireless issues and HNAP security issues.

It is a unsupported beta, much like what your using now, but better.

Yep... the Beta is still 2.02NA.  On the Status Screen, the Beta Firmware Version should say:
2.02 NA, Wed, 7, Oct, 2009
