Firmware Do's and Don'ts
« on: April 09, 2012, 07:05:49 AM »

Below are some simple rules to follow prior to downloading and installing firmware on your D-Link product and discussing firmware in this forum.

Please try, test and use the product out of the box with the version that comes loaded on it first. All D-Link products are tested before leaving the Mfr and do work well out of the box. There many external conditions or configurations that should be reviewed first if problems are found before considering updating firmware. Come to the D-Link Forums and get help for your D-Link product before upgrading firmware.

Downloading and Installing Firmware for a D-Link Product

  • Only install firmware downloaded directly from an official D-Link website or FTP site
  • Only install firmware clearly labeled for the specific country/region where you purchased the D-Link product
  • Firmware labeled as worldwide or ww will work for any country/region
Firmware Version Meaning: WW, NA, EA, EU
  • Firmware downloaded from an official D-Link site that is different from the country/region where the D-Link product was purchased may render the D-Link product as inoperable and void the warranty
  • Firmware labeled as beta may not be as stable as the prior official release version

Discussing Firmware on the D-Link Forum

  • Posting or discussing the location of beta firmware on official International D-Link sites (i.e. non-U.S.) is strictly prohibited in this forum unless said firmware is labeled as worldwide or ww
  • Posting or discussing the location of firmware on third party sites (i.e. non D-Link) is strictly prohibited in this forum

Why Are there Country-Specific Firmware Versions for the Same D-Link Product?

  • Subtle variations in the manufacturing process from country to country may result in different hardware specifications and different firmware requirements. As such, using firmware not specifically designated for your D-Link product may render the D-Link product inoperable and void the warranty
  • Although D-Link sometimes uses one firmware version for the same D-Link product/model released worldwide, until D-Link U.S. openly posts compatibility information (or labels the firmware as worldwide or ww), please refrain from posting or discussing links to non-US supported firmware in this forum
  • Infringing posts will be removed from this forum
