Title: Nest Thermosta and TP-Link HS100/Amazon Echo
Post by: Dyawlak on December 21, 2017, 06:44:28 AM
Both of these seem to loose their connection to the internet at variable times.

For the NEST even the mobile app (which uses Internet to connect to NEST) doesn't work - reports the Nest is off line.

When I try and use Amazon Echo to control the HS100s, sometimes it works but other times it reports that it can't contact the TPLink server (web browsing from laptop works). Using the TP Link application (Kasa) on a mobile works fine.

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

Hi

What seems to have worked (or at least dramatically reduced it) is :
1/ Turn of DNS Relay in the DIR-869 configuration
2/ Use the ISP DNS rather than manually configuring within the DIR-869 different DNS servers.

This appears to be either an issue with the DIR-869 and DNS or how the DIR-869 handles the configuration of DNS is not compatible. BUT I did start having Windows 10 machines "loosing internet connection" before I made the above changes. Since then the Windows machines have no connectivity issues and I have rare drop outs from the NEST and HS100s.

Of course I could have a faulty 869 I suppose.

I would presume this is a configuration issue and more like a possible configuration issue between the router and your ISP services and modem.
Seems like turning off DNS Relay has fixed this. Could be something between DNS Relay and your ISP Service handling of DNS.

I recommend if you have issues again, I would contact your regional D-Link support office and talk to them about this DNS relay issue.

Enjoy.
