Title: Power indicator is orange amber and won't connect to internet (globe is black)
Post by: Mr. Nguyen on July 13, 2016, 12:19:28 PM
Hi,

I got a D-Link DIR-810L H/W Ver.: A1 F/W Ver.: 1.01 (that's what was written behind the router) in Canada and the wifi connection got freeze (maybe because we were to many person to be connected). I turn off the router and forgot it for about 5 minute. Then I turn it back on and just the power light shows up in amber, not the globe. After more then 10 minutes later, it was still the same. I decided to connect the router directly to the modem (I have a VoIP device so the configuration is positioned like so: cable>modem>VoIP>router) but it still shows the same amber power light, no globe (even after a very very long time). If I change the router to my old one, everything works. So that's means that the problem is maybe not from the modem either the VoIP device. What's going on?

Can somebody help me?

Thank you

Link>Welcome! (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48135.0)

I recommend you change the configuration of the connections to the following for best practice of using modems and routers:
cable>modem>router>VoIP>place IP address of VoIP device into routers DMZ. I have a ATT microcell that is similar and do the same thing by using the routers DMZ to get best operation of the VoIP device.

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

Your behind on FW and you could try a FW update after you re-configure the system set up.

I have a cable network and my modem doesn't have a build in router. I just don't know what version or model it is. Ok. I'll stay you up to date if something goes wrong.

Thank you for replying.

Change the configuration between the router and VoIP device. Should work better then.

Ok doing it right now. But I was wondering: could a router die?

Not this one...not a high end router. I have this unit. Hasn't been bad at all.
Only real things that could kill a router is overly heated environment or power spike.

Hi,

So I did realign the circuit, but it doesn't work. Then I read some post on the forum and find out that I forgot to try resetting it. After doing so, it work. It just took me a long time to reconfigure, but it was ok. So thank you very much for your help. Really appreciated.

Thank you

Glad you got it going. Should work well for you.

Might update FW later on if needed.

Enjoy.  ;)
