DCS-933L wireless wont connect after firmware update
« on: November 08, 2014, 12:51:04 PM »

I have a DCS-933L which was installed out of the box and working fine through wireless connection with DIR-817LW router.  I received a message in MyDlink that a firmware udpate was available.  I clicked on link and firmware update ran, but camera was disconnected afterwards.  Could not reconnect through wireless.  Connected direct to router via wired connection and camera works, but green light on back will not stop flashing.  When I disconnect the cable, camera will not connect through WiFi.

Try doing a factory reset on the camera and set up from scratch...

I did a factory reset.  Used the wizard to reinstall the camera.  I was able to get it connected through WiFi.   When I access the camera through MyDlink, I can view the live video, but when I try to access camera settings (to set up camera name, notifications, etc.), I get only the screen saying I need to update the firmware.  I will not display any settings pages.  Camera is currently running firmware 1.03_b8, it wants me to update to 1.05_b5.  This is where I got into trouble before.  Is anyone running 1.05_b5 successfully?  I saw another thread on this forum which indicated problems with 1.05.

Me and several other people have one problem with the new firmware version 1.05_b5.  The problem only exists if you use the wifi extender mode.   If you turn on extender mode the camera will not connect wireless to your router (basically it is dead unless you hard wire it).   If you turn off extender mode then I think the new firmware is OK but I havent tested all functions.  For me, I had to back out of the new version (1.05_b5 is a problem for me) I am currently running version 1.04_b1 with no problems.  I just ignore the firmware update needed messages.

Thanks.  This camera has now dropped its wireless connection and I cant reconnect with it.  Green LED will not stop flashing.  I think I will return this camera and get a refund.  I have another identical camera that is working fine, but I have not updated the firmware on it.  I returned my third camera today.  It died completely after I updated the firmware on it.  Could not get it to power on.  Red and blue LEDs light for a few seconds and then go out.  I tried factory reset, but it made no difference.

I recommend returning to the prior version of FW. Do a factory reset, load the older .bin FW file. Factory reset once more then set up from scratch...

Latest update...  I submitted a problem report to Dlink tech support.  The cam seems to drop its wireless connection after a few hrs.  It reconnects after I disconnect / reconnect power.  Received an email after a few days to call the tech support number.  When I called, the tech walked me through reconnecting the cam through a wired connection, and then a wireless connection.  Which got me back to where I was.  Green LED still flashing.  Tech said it is nothing to worry about.  I still got the screen on Mydllink saying that the firmware needs to be updated.  Tech said not to worry about that either.  No need to update the FW, just select the update later box.  About an hour later, camera disconnected again.  I decided to update the FW using a wired connection.  It worked fine, but the green LED is still flashing.  For kicks, I enabled the range extender mode, and the cam immediately dropped its wifi connection (as has been reported elsewhere in this forum).  I reconnected to hardwire connection and disabled the range extender feature.  Then I was able to reconnect through Wifi connection.  I will give it a little time and see what happens.
