Lost software CD
« on: March 31, 2015, 10:09:26 AM »

Hi to all,
I had my DNS 320 lying around for almost two years without setting it up. Guess I'm a procrastinator. Now that I am determined to give it a go I realized I lost the software CD. The D-link website is useless, all the download links are dead. I would be really grateful if someone could upload it for me or even just suggest a place I could download it from.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried accessing the DNSs IP address via a web browser when connected to a main host router?

I did. But uploading files to the DNS seemed tedious as it looked like I cannot upload folders just files. So I gave a try to this Alt-F firmware and now I cannot even find a way to save anything on the DNS.....

How are you uploading files to the DNS? using Windows Explorer? You should be able to drag and drop folders and files from explorer to the mapped drive on the DNS...

FurryNutz: There is no way to map the drive without the original software package...or am I wrong?

Hmm.. well I don't have experience with this older model. However I presume if the 320 has a built in UI, you should be able to set up the DNS by using browser and connect to the DNSs admin page...I know my DNS 345 does this...

What exactly are you looking for? Not the "Utility:DNS-320 A1 D-Link Storage Utility v5.0.0.0"? Pretty sure it has all contents of the CD (and more) for every hardware version of the DNS 320. For some reason they just label it all firmware. And for some reason my previous link now says "Access not allowed" so use http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/ instead and just enter in what ever model.

Thanks for the reply Hard Harry, it is really confusing that they label the softwares as firmware. I downloaded the Storage Utility, but it just wouldn't see my DNS. It is f*ing annoying. It is there. I can reach from the browser...now I just want to map it. Is that a lot to ask for? :-)

I'm not sure where you have managed to get to or why you want the CD.

Since we do not use the windows operating system here we have never used the CD.  What we do is open a browser (firefox in our case) put http://192.168.0.32 in the address bar, give the username as admin and we can then setup the NAS.

Before you can map anything you need to setup services and who can use them (example, CIFS (Samba), FTP Server and so on).  The FTP server will allow you to use FileZilla to transfer anything from single files to the whole hard disk.  To use CIFS and FTP it requires you to set up network shares (under account management).  Once you have those setup the NAS should appear under network places in windows.

All of this information is in the manual even though they do rabbit on about the CD at the start - it isn't necessary.
