shareport sees hdd but can't access
« on: February 15, 2014, 08:04:28 AM »

Hey, new to  the forum.

Title explains it I guess.
Searched the forum about this problem tried a few "solutions", but they're not working.
When I disable shareport, there's no problem. I can access the hdd from within my network.
But when i enable it, I can access it for like 5 min or so. After that I can only see the drive (in the browser not in the app), but can't access it any more.
I do see that the drive is "busy" because the leds are flashing on the drive. But that's now for more then 24 hours.

1 "solution" i tried was to erase all the ".metadata" files on the hdd and then reconnect. (Now more than 24 hours ago).
Could it be possible that the router is busy remaking these files?

Thanks in advance.

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?
  • Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?

3rd Party Security Software Configurations
  • Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
  • Turn off all devices accept for one wired LAN PC while testing.
  • Disable any downloading client software managers, i.e. Torrents or similar.

Max USB drive sizes supported on D-Link routers is 500Gb and needs to be formatted NTFS.

What version of SP do you have installed? What PC OS platform are you using?

I'd phone contact your regional D-Link support office and have them check the configuration if your router and SP SW and confirm that drive size support. You are located in the EU region and there could be some differences between your region and the NA region FWs.

Let us know what you find out.

Yeah, tried that already. But thanks for the help.
I think the problem is that there are to many files on the hdd.
I borrowed an external hdd 500gb, and this one works and keeps working.

So I guess when mine works for 5 min he's "loading". And when its to much he crashes?

The problem is I can't store these files somewhere else.
So i'm gonna leave it as it is.

Is it possible to remotely access the hdd without shareport?
Can't find anything on this. It works locale.

Thanks for the help.

Ya, I believe you need the SP/ or mydlink app to access it from a remote location.
