Extremely poor performance DWA-556 & DIR-655
« on: May 13, 2011, 07:06:50 AM »

Hi,

Just purchased the DWA-556 for my desktop as I can't run a cable to the router from where the desktop is. The performance is horrible. My Lenovo T510 gets a better connection and faster speeds in the same location. The distance between the router and the computer is ~30 feet or 10 metres.

First, here's the details and settings:

* Win7 64-bit
* DWA-556 driver 9.2.0.105 (Atheros AR5008)

Settings for the adapter:

Code: [Select]
11d mode switch: disable
802.11 BT high speed: disable
802.11b preamble: long and short
AdHoc 11n: disable
Adhoc Channel: 11
AntennaSwitch: Auto
Auto Transmit Rate: Enable
Backgroundscan: Off
Dynamic MIMO power save: disable
Green Tx: disable
Map registers: 256
MFP: Enable
Network address: Not present
pcieAspm: Off, Off
Power save mode: Off
Receive buffers: 256
Roaming policy: Normal
RSSI threshold: Normal
Scan valid interval: 60
Transmit buffers: 512
Transmit power: 100%
Wireless mode: 11nbg (40Mhz)

Settings on the DIR-655 router w/ Firmware: 1.34EU, under Advanced Wireless:

Manual wireless settings:

Wireless connections on DIR-655:

And here's the status in Win7:

So basically, how can I improve this? Thanks!

Aw, no one?

Edit: I'm now seeing about 21.5 mb/s or ~2700KB/s. Not really "N" speeds. I've changed the settings to these:

(short GI doesn't make things better for me)

Driver: Driver settings:

WLAN status:

And here you can see the statistics on the DIR-655, about every other time I refresh the page the errors goes up, so something's not right:
