Can't access web server from LAN
« on: July 22, 2011, 11:14:21 PM »

Hi all,

I have a rather quirky problem.  I run a web server behind a D-Link DIR-655 (Rev B).  I have port 80 opened and forwarded to my servers IP and a domain pointed at my external IP.  I can access the server without issue using the domain or external IP from outside of my network, but I can only access it via the internal IP from inside my network.  Using the domain or the external IP just gives me a timeout error.  I had a Linksys router previously and didn't face this issue.

I just updated to the most recent firmware (2.03NA), but unfortunately that did not resolve my issue.

Anyone have any ideas?

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off QoS options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

Keyword here is "NAT Loopback" it is probably not supported, some sort of security risk google tells us. Im not sure why.

The fix is to get another router with support or fiddle with dns names locally eiter via a local dns server or hosts files.

I have this problem too and solved it using a local dns-server.

Cheers.

Actually the DIR-655 offered loopback at first, with Version A1/A2. Then starting Version B1 it was removed for "security reasons" as you said.
