Title: Macbook Air can not connect to 5ghz
Post by: tqynnhoj on December 18, 2011, 01:40:21 PM
tried everything, it doesn't connect and if it does it will never connect again. I've tried all channels and only channel 48 works but other devices such as my DAP 1522 can't connect to anything but 36.

Thinking of returning this router

What wireless modes are you using on the 5Ghz???
Trying Single mode N only on 5Ghz?
I presume the MacBook Air supports 5Ghz?
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer (http://www.metageek.net/) to find out.
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.

Just to let others know, I have a Macbook Air and have been able to connect to the DIR-827 using 802.11n only with WPA2-AES on both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. The maximum throughput I can get is around 270mb on the 5GHz radio and about 120mb using the 2.4GHz radio. However the 2.4GHz radio has better wireless penetration throughout the house as compared to the 5GHz.

FYI, your correct about 2.4 and 5Ghz going thru wall. Just the nature of 5Ghz as it's such a high frequency, it's best in line of sight. It's effected by walls and materials in between the router and devices. Usually 1 wall away is ok.

Ensure you have the latest firmware posted. Save your config and factory reset the router. Leave all settings to default, clear any wireless profile settings on your Macbook and try to connect. There should be no issues from default. If you have a DAP-1522 and have similar issues, it is possibly a faulty router or environmental. Disconnect the router and just plug it in by itself in another room (don't worry about ISP connections) and retest the Macbook Air and DAP-1522. If both still have troubles with the router it may just be that.

Another person in this thread confirmed that Macbook Air does work with his 827 so it's unlikely to be a compatibility issue at least at this time.

Any status on this? Hope you got it working.
